Here's hoping there's an uncirculated Betty Board of the show without said cut of death.

 

Apparently the last time this happened was 7/26/72, according to the creator of the "Dark Star 1972" megamix on the Archive.

 

In general I find Weir a little annoying. And that is at least part of why I love him.

 

We seem to have veered way off course. This thread is about the subscription. Conversations like those above should be in the main dead thread or Garcia.

 

Good of you to mention Bettye, because I forgot.
I did listen to that album yesterday and like it a lot. She sounds a bit like Mavis Staples but more rockin. Also played another album of hers when she did a great take on Everybody knows this is knowhere. And a Black Crowes cover that also worked really well!

I would also love a '73 Box Set; however, I think DL is referring to the imminent Box Set release, which is focused on a man, not the usual run of shows. That has never been done before. The man is Pigpen. I believe we'll be looking at approx 10 CDs, and perhaps a complete show or two.

 

A little Pigpen goes a long, long way for me, and yet I also see how I could be interested in this, although this is also the first time I've seen such a thing proposed.

Also, uh, apologies for my prominent role in steering the ship in the wrong direction. Momentarily forgot where I was. It all rolls into one, and all that.

 

Sub folks should get 26 by next weekend. A Pigpen Box Set just doesn't feel right, right now. 2022 would be better. 50th Anniversary and all...

 

My guess is a super-expanded Anthem of the Sun.

 

The ‘73 horns discussion led me to find this article: Lost Live Dead: The Horn Tour (September 1973 Tour Itinerary)

I’m curious if there is any consensus (relatively speaking) on the best and worst shows, songs or segments from the dates with horns.

 

I think the first one, 9/11, is probably the one to get.

If true, next to no chance the bonus discs will ever get re-released. Iirc, i'm missing one bonus disc in my collection.

 

Real Gone announced they wouldn't re-release the Road Trips bonus discs because 'management said it would violate the spirit of a bonus disc' which made no sense, but maybe the thing with the covers had something to do with it.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if the royalty contracts have caught on to the odd mental gymnastics practiced by the powers to be in Dead land and said no more to bonus discs. Why would I authorize my song (that I assume I would get some payment per copy sold of) on a bonus disc that has a one-time only run, when I can force them to have it on the main release which will then get many more copies (in terms of Dave's 26, a few thousand more upon release). When Dave's get rereleased, whether on digital or vinyl or format yet to be invented, that will be another round of royalties. And even then, rereleasing the bonus disc material won't be in the spirit of a bonus disc.

 

Any thoughts/guesses on Dave's 27?

With the last few picks being 71, 77, 72 and 78, I think we can rule those years out. We're overdue for some '74 (but there's not a ton left to mine from for that year, particularly if we ever see a '74 box) or '76. I also think 4/22/79 is a possibility. I think we get a '73 box set, so I don't think it'll be '73 My five best guesses in chronological order are:

5/19/74, 6/23/74, 6/3/76, 6/11/76, or 4/22/79

 

I would be very happy with any of those.

I'd add 6/27/69, and 10/12-13/68 to your list.

Look, we're generally a tolerable lot here. Since there's a corollary that Dark Star is always happening (and just try to argue with Jerry about that), therefore, these threads are fair game, within reason. Let me put it another way: our group isn't massive, but it's very tight-knit. Let the little mis-steps in terms of rules slide a bit. You'll feel more free because of it. I say this in true earnest. Off topic can be annoying, but we've been settled in for a while. We're comfortable here.
