I am getting into Al Stewart and his Year of the Cat record has great acoustic (and electric) guitar. What are some others? I guess LZIII, and Tommy, what others?

A few I enjoy that immediately come to mind:

Jimmy Page on Rain song (Houses of the Holy LP).

Neil Young - Needle and the damage done (Harvest LP).

Nancy Wilson tracks on the LP's Dreamboat Annie and Little Queen have some nice acoustic guitar sections.

That’s the heart of acoustic guitars on rock albums!

Dire Strait's Mark Knopfler played some very tasteful National Style O acoustic guitar. I'd recommend Romeo & Juliet, Private Investigations, and (a part of) Telegraph Road. Am I forgetting any others?

Thanks, all. I'm particularly looking for whole records that have acoustic all over them.

Not sure this is up anyone's alley but surf music has often be associated with screaming guitars and heavy drums (Dick Dale). The Duo-Tones took classic surf instrumentals and made them all acoustic on the album "Surf Music Unpluggged"

Before your clarifier, I was going to post 'Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel...
the Spanish-style acoustic solo by Jim Cregan is probably the most distinctive element of the song.

But I think I'm still alright... there are a couple of other tracks on the album 'The Best Years of Our Lives' that are acoustic guitar heavy... most notably the title track... as well as 'It Wasn't Me'. Hey, that's three out of eight.

As you said Led Zeppelin III is a standout for me along with Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood for that matter may want to look into early Jethro Tull starting with Stand Up.

I wouldn't call it a "classic rock" album, maybe "classic rock n roll"...

Once again, it's more accurate to call it "country blues revival" than classic rock, but...
