I've got a real thing for arrangements that combine prominent acoustic guitar and raunchy electric guitar. My favorite examples include "Carry On Til Tomorrow" by Badfinger. Extra points earned for the use of a strings orchestra!:

Bowie did it real horrorshow with "Starman", "Moonage Daydream" and elsewhere on the Ziggy Stardust album.

Another favorite (minus the strings) is "Going Mobile" by The Who. Pete could make an acoustic guitar sound just as aggressive as an electric!

After over 20 years I thinks it's safe to start thinking about this album
    as "Classic Rock".

"King of America" is also a wonderful album for acoustic guitar sounds.

From 1992. Clapton was fresh out of rehab. Clean and sober for the first time in years. Realized he still had the talent. The only Unplugged album I ever bothered to buy.

Didja know: Charlie Chin from Cat Mother was the banjo player on Bluebird. That's a great part too.

The Who-Who's Next for a Classic Rock masterpiece has more acoustic guitar on there than one would think being such a "Rockin' album?

IF I'm understanding this correctly the OP seems to indicate "Classic ROCK ' albums?

Actually Ten Years Later- A Space In Time (that this song comes from)has a lot of acoustic guitar through out it while being a "Rockin'" guitar album.

AGAIN,IF I'm understanding this correctly the OP seems to indicate "Classic ROCK ' albums?

James Gang-Rides Again falls into this category too

As I'm trying to match the OP's examples of Albums like LZ III being Classic ROCKIN" & acoustic blending.Hopefully doing it right...:)

I got this one at a thrift store with a bunch of others. It took me a while to figure out that it was Hot Tuna. That is some hard script to read.

Love Pete Townshend's acoustic work. Love the way he layers acoustic guitars, and other times uses them to drive the song.

Frampton, whether with Humble Pie or as a solo artist, has great and performed some fantastic acoustic songs. Here is one of my favorites, from an early Humble Pie album:

Learning to play acoustic guitar at the moment, so this old thread caught my attention. A few I thought of:

    Exile on Main Street
    - Stones
    Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
Comes a Time - Neil Young
