Surely many or all of them were already mentioned, but these are some epic (and relatively long) closers from epic albums:

The Doors: "The End" from The Doors (1967)
The Beatles: "A Day In The Life" from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
Love: "You Set The Scene" from Forever Changes (1967)
The Who: "We're Not Gonna Take It" from Tommy (1969)
The Rolling Stones: "You Can't Always Get What You Want" from Let It Bleed (1969)

Confused about this one. Great song, but closing track?

  6. "Bull Session With The 'Big Daddy'", an awesome closing track to the otherwise mediocre Today! album by The Beach Boys. :D

Seriously "Surf's Up" on the Surf's Up album.

I love "Child Of Vision", but "Fool's Overture" would be my pick for this thread.

I like the fading guitars too, but it's not the closing track for the album, Diary of a Madman. :)

I think Meat Loaf's "For Crying Out Loud" is a pretty great closer for such a bombastic album.

Interesting thread though and bookmarked, seeing as I'm doing great album openers as a tourno, might do one for closing tracks.

:kilroy: It's worth pointing out that not all of Elvis Costello's choices for closing tracks were good ones. Hell, on the original run of the "Get Happy" album, it wasn't even clear which was the closing track, as what was listed as side 1 on the album's sleeve was listed as side 2 on the album's label.

:kilroy: I've also always felt that the whole "Imperial Bedroom" album would've flowed much better if side 1 were side 2 and vice-versa.
