His entire set at Live Aid is great... it kind of gets forgotten in the wake of Queen's similarly triumphant set.

Perhaps not his best, under the circumstances, but still classy and touching.

If I could see one show I'd definitely pick a 1974 or 1976 concert. Or a "Serious Moonlight" show;);)

I was there, in the second row, and can be seen in the video. Whilst it was great fun, it wouldn't make my top three. Those would be:

    1997-01-09 Madison Square Garden, NYC
    1999-10-10 HQ Club, Dublin
    2000-06-27 BBC Radio Theatre, London

My favourite tour was the 1995-96 Outside Tour.

I saw Bowie 73 times - there's no way I could pick a favorite show from all of those!

With all due respect, and I loved seeing Bowie two nights at the Budokan on the Reality Tour, the Ziggy footage (what little there is) is much more interesting and compelling to me. Perhaps it's because I wasn't around, but even the much-criticized Hammersmith Odeon footage looks great to me. I would have loved to have been there.

There's a DVD 'out there' of his 1996 Loreley Festival performance, with what was probably my favorite live line-up he had (Dorsey, Gabrels, Garson and Alford), that is brilliant. 'Scary Monsters' is literally, scary!

Two things always spring to mind:

Amazing from Tin Machine's Live: Oy Vey, Baby
Always Crashing In The Same Car from Bowie At The Beeb (bonus disc)

In your opinion, which was the worst---or the worst tour (if you can't narrow it down to one single show)?

I remember one of the July 1990 shows in Philly was lackluster at best - it's the only time I felt Bowie phoned it in. And when I spoke to him a couple of days later, he agreed - though he blamed his band! :D

Worst tour? Honestly can't pick - they all had strengths and weaknesses. I saw Bowie on eight "full tours" and two other "mini-tours" - all were good to great!

I only got to see him once. He avoided upstate New York like the plague (yet strangely chose to live here at the end of his life). I wasn't going to travel to Buffalo or New York City to see him so I was out of luck. His one and only visit to the area was in 1990 on his "Sound and Vision" tour. Two days before my 14th birthday. I wish I could have seen him on other occasions. I really would have liked to have seen him on the Outside tour, but driving down to the Meadowlands was too much for me. I don't like the big city. I don't like people. Maybe I should have tried harder.

I saw Bowie more times than @Oatsdad, and agree that his standard of live performance was consistently excellent. I can't recall a bad show per se, although he would phone it in from time to time.

My least favourite tours were Sound + Vision and Reality. The last time I saw him was in New Orleans, in April 2004, and the onstage jollity seemed forced, to me. Offstage, he appeared stressed. I knew then that it would be the last time I would see him.

I was at Glasto 2000, but my favourite performance of "Heroes" remains 2002-08-02 Jones Beach, NY -- a truly heroic performance in the midst of a howling thunderstorm.

Serious Moonlight 1983, the home video release, recorded in Vancouver. "The best" is subjective, but this has been at the top of my list of favorites since I watched it on HBO when it first aired.

He was too good for too long to have a greatest IMO. But to single out x3 that are easy to find and watch..

"My Death" London 1973 from Ziggy Stardust the Motion Picture.

"Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)" Long Marston Phoenix Festival 1997.

"Absolute Beginners" London 2000 BBC Radio Theatre concert.

..and to listen to, the premiere of the show with the complete "Low" followed by the complete "Heathen", NYC 2002, Hammerstein Ballroom if I recall rightly.
