"Marquee Moon" has two key riffs among the all time greats, the verse riff and the wordless refrain.

Layla and Whole Lotta Love were the first 2 I thought of and they are my favorites.

BTR and Badlands by Springsteen are firm contenders. Bablands in particular can break a stadium...

You reminded me of a couple of other similar tunes in the key of D that are classic riffs and excellent on guitar; Cream - Whiteroom and Neil Young - Ohio.

Agreed. It’s a shame that song loses its bite by the end.

Out on the Tiles - this is also one of the longest catchy riffs I can think of

It Could be Sunshine - Love and Rockets. I'd been listening to Bauhaus for years, but this is the riff that made me start paying close attention to Daniel Ash. He's maybe not a virtuoso but he is a master of tone, a great writer of riffs, and maybe the most important of the 90s noise guitar godfathers (other than Hendrix of course!)

The Core - Clapton. I could listen to this riff endlessly, which is a good thing because he must play it a hundred times in this song

Runnin with the Devil - I love it when Eddie's brown sound is so thick that the guitar almost sounds like a bass

Changes - Band of Gypsys. UNSTOPPABLE RIFF
