For those interested, Antenna TV will be having a Green Acres marathon all day on this Friday (3/17) for St. Patrick's Day.

Well, it's not really a marathon, more like a bunch of consecutive episodes all in a row.

Well, it's not really a bunch of consecutive episodes in a row, it's kind of...

Wait, what was I talking about again? :)

My favorite episode is "The Ballad of Molly Turgiss" (Episiode 26). Green Acres Episode 26 I'll have to see if it will air. I'm not sure why I like it best other than the absurd concept that the otherwise omnipresent ghost steals Mr. Haney's truck and drives it to Pixley in order to illegally park it in front of a fire hydrant, yet still has to walk back from Pixley before she can engage in further mischief. I love absurdist comedy, and TV comedy rarely got more absurd than this show.

Mr Douglas: What can I do for you Mr Kimble?
Mr Kimble: "Oh, I brought you some pamphlets on Irritating Your Corn".
Mr Douglas: " Dont you mean IRRIGATING my corn"?
Mr Kimble: " Why would you want to do that"?
Mr Douglas: "To make the Corn GROW ......"
Mr Kimble: 'Really? Do you have any pamphlets on that"??

still hoping for the rest of the seasons to show up on home video!

  8. My favorite is when the cow (Eleanor) swallows Eb's radio and he's trying to win the "name that tune" contest by listening to her belly and every song sounds exactly the same but they all have long absurd titles.

Lisa Douglas: It's just like in the movies, Oliver: everything ends happily. The fellow kisses the girl, and the cow's stomach starts to play music.

Oliver Douglas: Yeah... Television has a long way to go to catch up.

Just saw the commercial for it. Is the announcer Shadoe Stevens who used to host AT40 after Casey Kasem?

Hope they air all the episodes on July 4th featuring Oliver's patriotic speeches, complete with stirring background music

    From real-time viewing memory:

Native American Squatter on Oliver's farm: "Don't come any closer or I'll hit you with my Homatawk!"
    Oliver: It's not a Homatawk, it's a Tomahawk!"
    Later in episode...
Eb: "Look out! He's got a homatawk!"
    Oliver: "Groan..."

I first saw the show in the late 80's when Nick At Nite was running it and I was surprised at how meta the humor was. :)

I would totally buy like half the stuff Mr. Haney would try to sell me. I thought he had cool stuff. :)

    A few of my favorites:

    The monkey-racing track

Arnold is groomed by a Hollywood studio to succeed a talking horse on a TV show (the same production company did Mr Ed)

The 8 year old electronics whiz creates his own TV station and Oliver inadvertantly ends up as the star of its most popular TV program

Lisa and "Douglas, Oliver Wendell Douglas" are reminiscing on how they met in Hungary in World War II. When Oliver's plane is going down, tower control in London advises him that if he ends up in Stalag 13, look for a chap named Hogan.

You're preaching to the choir :)

I agree, I'd love the rest of the seasons to show up on DVD... I wouldn't want to do it, but I'd double-dip and rebuy seasons 1-3 if some company opted to release it as an entire series box set as opposed to individual seasons...

Tom Lester still has the jacket from the show and will wear it to public appearances. I like that. :)
