Was never a big fan of the second album, but this... A fond memory, I got home with this CD and some.... herbage... and myself and friend sat down to listen to this. Of course I loved it, but he had a bad reaction after a few minutes and did the "nah man, just ?!?!ng tun it off, seriously, man, turn it off...." thing. Had to laugh.
I can understand your mate's sentiment, especially w/ the herb; this is like listening to a album playing backwards. neato.
Ihshan's albums all have a low DR too, but sound great to me. I wouldn't expect ANY Mayhem album to have big DR #s. Lol. Not going to knock your thoughts, but I haven't noticed any glaring issues with that album myself (unlike the Judas Priest complete collection). My advice is to turn it up louder and/o drink more.
That's the point, I wish I could turn it up louder! You're right though, it's not that hard on the ears in practice. Nothing like the anniversary Defenders of The faith album disc, now that you mention the Priest remasters. That thing is destroyed....
That is funny. I wouldn't be able to handle that either. I'm very intrigued by this which comes out July 13th. Sounds epic.
I was checking out the impressive 2018 debut by Australia's Golgothan Remains when I spotted the Funeral Mist.
Yeah, I listened to it late last night after getting in from work. Was a pleasant surprise to find it there. I'm sort of glad it's not as relentless as Salvation or as weird and antagonistic as Maranatha. It's a ... "comfortable" and immediate Funeral Mist album, which is nice to have in the collection. Now I can listen to them without feeling like I'm making an emotional commitment, ha. The production is a welcome change-up for this band, too. Open and clear, lots of separation between all the layers to avoid the (often brilliant) strangulation of the last two albums. Oh, and yeah, that Golgothan Remains is excellent.
I was only able to hear it once and the two things which stood out for me were the vocals and absence of clichés. It's so welcome and refreshing to hear an album full of the idiosyncrasies of the artist rather than the checking of boxes. Rostén's use of different voices on different songs is so impressive.
