An album by Svartidauði from 2012 which I only encountered two days ago, it even further solidifies the sense that Iceland (and the neighbouring Faroe Isands) is where it's at! As I haven't had much free time I really haven't even ventured much past song one but also because what a song! I have been hitting repeat. I'm doing the full indulgence of posting some recent live photos. Svarti Dauði is Icelandic for "Black Death". Rated Grrrr
I don't know what her connection to the band is other than the album tattoo but she's on their page and Hell-O-Kitty approves.
Svartidaudi have ascended into my unholy trinity of contemporary Black Metal related bands, all of which hail from Iceland. The other two are Almyrkvi : Umbra, by Almyrkvi and of course Zhrine: ZHRINE Thanks for the heads up, Mike!
I would like to add to the list of contemporary, Wode, Oranssi Pazazu and DSKNT(i think that's the correct order).
Huge fan of Oranssi Pazuzu (they would probably be #4 on my list if I actually had one ), I've listened to DSKNT a bit and dig them. I need to delve into some Wode... Thanks, Lenny!
Wode's two releases are name your price for the download on bandcamp. One more I would add to my list of contempary bm is Batushka, who I believe is getting ready to start their first US tour. I think they've got a new one coming later this year too.
Listening to what is perhaps the last great (in my opinion) Opeth album that came out 10 years ago. I can still hope they do something awesome (instead of merely good as the past 3 have been for me) again.
Tribute albums are really far down on my list of things to listen to but this one is quite unique. "Tribute" is not correct as much of the music was written or recorded by the original members when their main man and vocalist kicked the bucket before finishing the album. There were no vocals recorded. Then multiple members of the community filled in to finish the album. I wasn't familiar with the band and did a fast run through their six previous albums and frankly I like this posthumous album a lot more. Trondr Nefas/ Trond Bråthen 1977-2012 died of natural causes Recording information: Urgehal - Aeons in Sodom - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives Music, Lyrics & solos (tracks 2, 4, 6, 9) by Trondr Nefas Music (tracks 3, 5, 7, 8) by Enzifer The full line-up of guest musicians is: Nocturno Culto (DARKTHRONE): vocals on track 2 M. Taken from the Metal Mean Festival in Belgium, August 20, 2011. After the album intro the Darkthronesque opening song by Darkthrone's Nocturno Culto is what hooked me but I like the whole album. Aeons in Sodom, by Urgehal
Nattefrost (CARPATHIAN FOREST / NATTEFROST): vocals and lyrics on track 8 Skyggen (TORTORUM): guitar solo on track 8
A pair of more avant-garde, slow burns I'll let smolder to completion. Some of the comments had me crack a smile: "It's a goddamn masterpiece", "now i can invent a new tag.BRUTAL FUNERAL DOOM", "From 51:00, it's like you finally enter in the world you have always been looking for."
Any updates on when the new Numemorean album is coming out? Home is probably my favorite heavy album from the last few years, really looking forward to the follow up. I believe it is to be titled Adore.
Not much metal of any type for me this week but today I'm taking a nostalgic listen to Queensryche - Rage For Order. I still think it's a pretty great album.
Google gave me their go fund me type page w a general Sept date. Numenorean - Adore That looks great and as much as they packed into that they didn't spoil anything. I watched the much ballyhooed horror "Hereditary" and it was pretty good. Reminded me of "Rosemary's Baby" at times. I think there's a new horror genre Emotional Horror or it's my imagination on a personal level. This and "It Comes at Night" each had older teen/ young adult being emotionally tormented within the family unit. Maybe that pushes my buttons. The acting in Hereditary is very good but it's the mother who is a standout. I can't imagine there being a better performance this year and she should get the best acting award. The Academy has overlooked popular and Horror movies but it does look like they're trying to ward off their increasing irrelevance with expanded awards and maybe they should nominate her. No spoiler but for the movie's ending I can think of a more mundane, ambiguous and horrifying ending. That's why I'm here, far from Hollywood. I haven't heard anything compelling for weeks. Just odds and sods, one good song per album, though I started this 2015 album last night and think it's pretty good so far. Song one
