I hope it's not one of the spots which were wrecked.

I watched the first 15 or 20 minutes of that and then stopped for no good reason. Later saw a bunch of praise for it and realized I should have kept watching. I'll return to it. Last week I watched the British horror comedy The Cottage (2008) and laughed as hard as I did a few years ago. It's best to read nothing about it. I recommended it to my friend (she of that new baby) and she said her boyfriend watched it twice that night.

This video of nothing much makes me want to see Opeth again. For some odd reason seeing the dudes walk through the halls makes me wistful for the years when seeing some cool looking guys on the streets was not a rare thing.

I know this has been posted previously but damn this album goes down good when I'm feeling armfoldy and grimfrowny:

**** the haters, I would go so far as to say this album is Marduk's masterpiece.

"armfoldy" I WAS in an okay mood until 2pm and had an hour of feeling mouthpunchy...but I've recovered.

    :edthumbs:

I've been indulging in the band that they covered Abhorrence. Aside from the new release, which I haven't had time to listen to yet, their short career is available in one tidy package. There's some lovely brutal poetry in it.

Josta, how did it go? I was reminded of Cultes des Ghoules by chance seeing this. Not a review but rather a conversation between to reviewers about the new album. As one who can barely read album reviews (I skim a few lines then listen to the link) I found the conversation much more fun than a straight review. Tag-Team Album Review: Cultes des Ghoules - Sinister, or Treading the Darker Paths | Indy Metal Vault

I'll quote a few sentences out of sequence and out of context because that's more entertaining. I must say I am very intrigued.

"So let me preface this by saying that as far as I’m concerned, Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love, the sprawling, 100-minute black metal opera that Cultes des Ghoules released in 2016, is the best black metal album of this decade."

"I ****ing hate Jim Morrison. To the point where it’s almost one of the defining aspects of my personality. I’ll even go on record as saying that he’s the single most overrated musician in the history of ever, with Jack White coming in at a distant second. But I digress…

YOU LEAVE JACK WHITE ALONE! He wasn’t even the worst musician in The White Stripes."
    :biglaugh:

"With Mark of the Devil, Cultes des Ghoules has arguably the most versatile vocalist in all of black metal – only Lörd Matzigkeitus (The Projectionist/The Black Sorcery/Thy Sepulchral Moon) really comes close to matching him"

"As for a final grade, this is an easy A for me. Cultes des Ghoules is clearly a band at the height of their unholy powers. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we’re witness to the beginning of a string of albums that will end up being so influential that they’ll help reshape black metal for years to come."

Not metal at all but just got back from The Reverend Horton Heat AND Unknown Hinson. Little outdoor stage at a vineyard. Temp in the 40s but we missed most of the rain. :) Great show. Best time I've seen the Rev since they opened for White Zombie over 20 years ago.

I had to look them up and when I did I recognized the Reverend's face. I've seen him somewhere on the TV. Looks like an awesome show. If they ever come to town I'll try to go.

    Haha. That'll take some schoolin'.

Now back to the Cultes des Ghoules lesson. "Should I turn to magic? If all else fails, should I turn to magic?" from Coven, Or Evil Ways Instead Of Love: song #3 - Strange Day, See The Clash Of Heart And Reason... (Scene III)

I'll have to listen to the entirety of Cultes des Ghoules' Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love tonight. I listened to the first 3/5ths two nights ago. It's an avant-garde rock opera and it wasn't for me. Then continuing last night with song #4 the band laid down a beat and I put it on repeat. I relished some of the pronunciations.

Storm Is Coming, Come the Blessed Madness... (Scene IV) 14:39
    SCENE FOUR

    DOROTHEA
Storm is coming, come the blessed madness
The remedy to trivial life's sadness
My soul cares not for the life eternal
Nurtured by the wonders of the infernal

(Dorothea's fiancé comes in and hears her monologue)

    JONATHAN
What madness is this that comes through your lips?
What possessed you to make you talk like this?
You have changed since you made Gypsies your friends
Worse! People say you've met with this warlock
Old George, shady character, guile dog!
'Tis no company for proper maidens

    DOROTHEA
Who are ye to say what for me is right?
Don't come near, you're no better than a slave
Preaching holy for show, pitiful sight
I never deemed thy virtues pure and brave
    ........

All this indugence in very tired Faustian mephistopheles mythologies had me think of how grand is that real world song/ video by Immolation. That and going back to the beginning when Sabbath had their anti-war and ecology songs, War Pigs, Children of the Grave, etc. Nothing is more frightening than reality. Speaking of which, coffee break is over. Grrr

    Nice guitars!
Was just listening to this which also has some tasty guitar just before 4:00. A Single, it's a free download which I took. Aux armes (promo, 2018), by Peste Noire

I've developed a burning desire for those Stench of Decay songs. They're only available on a 2012 band compilation from Ektro Records in Finland. I don't want it, I NEED it! About $20 with shipping and shipping is 40% of the total cost but it's worth every penny. Now just crossing fingers about the mastering. "Remastered By – Pizzamasterit" :wtf:

Another metal comedy. The most unknown metal band in Finland, Impaled Rektum, is trying to get to the hottest metal festival in Norway.

"What kind of music do you dumbasses even play?"
"Symphonic Postapocalyptic Reindeer-Grinding krist-Abusing Extreme War Pagan Fennoscandian Metal"

Blind, dubious expression with chin-scratch for several seconds inducing purchase, but Shock! Horror! Century Media did a damn fine job.

Vokills are mucho sensational, similar to, but > Mille Petrozza.

How utterly annoying. I was going to buy this Negativa album from bandcamp. 03, by Negativa
The one with the odd deal of buy the cassette for $7 which included the digital download or buy the digital download for $1,000. I listened to it twice last night to be sure I wanted it and decided I did. Being the 18th and a preorder I thought I'll just wait 'til today the 19th, release day so I can have it right away. Wrong! Cassette sold out and the only option is the $1,000 purchase. What the hell is that. They'll never play Carnegie Hall with that attitude.
Song #4 after 4:00, delicious bass.
