On deck is this new Spanish album which caught my ear, and is quite the contrast to Gris. On deck as Gris is at bat forever smacking gorgeous arcing foul balls all over the stadium.

Saw Behemoth 11/9 at HOB Chicago. It was excellent, maybe a little short. I love these guys. They put on an amazing show, very accurate. Lucifer was AMAZING!

Speaking of Nile, they're currently in Greece, recording their next one to be released next year. Can't wait!

Lucifer was the highlight for me. I'd forgotten about my disappointment that they didn't play Messe Noire. I love the guitar solo on Messe. A bonus track has surfaced from the Japanese CD for I Loved You At Your Darkest

I still haven't done what I said I would, listen to the last Nile album. Although the 5 minute intro is good, maybe a minute (or two?) too long, I've been absolutely stuck on the first two and a half minutes of the Gris song which starts at 4:40. It's just so perfect! Two and a half minutes of heaven. The other 78 minutes of the album? I'll get around to it, eventually.

Thorns is GREAT! Everyone in the BM scene has tried to get that guitar tone, but very few have ever succeeded.

Always thought this one has some of the most inventive bm riffage ever.

I need to check out some of those titles but my general feeling regarding 2018 - mediocre, maybe it's the life experience talking but there was nothing released in 2018 (so far) that made me go :goodie: wow that's awesome, fresh, new, innovative and kick ass. I did become more aware of a trend that I hate the (NWOTHM), all bands with that category tag need to go away asap.

There are plenty of people who don't wonder into these parts, so a separate thread is a most excellent thing.

I've been feeling the same way all year and I wasn't knocked out by the two albums I most looked forward to by Horrendous and Behemoth. They're okay but a step back in quality from their last ones. NWOTHM...hehe, honestly I cringe.
The first album of 2018 that struck me as excellent, back on February 16th, may go on to be the single best for me. We'll see.

Speaking of the best, last night I indulged in some very best of 2017. I guess I had enough of messing around with the many, many lesser beings. That and I spent time with the 50th anniversary issues of Electric Ladyland and The White Album which contributed to my only wanting to hear top quality. I can't remember changing my mind for 20 years that The Beatles were the best band that ever existed. A real minority opinion here at SH Forums.

Yes, the very best of 2017. I listened to this album from start of finish. The final 2 minutes of this song are killer.

With the legalization up here I've been reminded why I never was a pothead. It just makes me lazy. Maybe even a little dumb and timid, quiet. Not really fun. No wonder I was a booze-hound. Drinking was a lot more fun.
