    hoping for more tour dates

And the new GBV live line-up is:

    Robert Pollard with
    Bobby Bare Jr. (guitar),
    Kevin March (drums),
    Nick Mitchell (guitar),
    Mark Shue (bass)

Guided By Voices have been announced to headline Sled Island Festival on June 25. The prolific Robert Pollard has a fantastic new solo album forthcoming on Fire Records and a strikingly fresh Guided By Voices album in the works, on which he plays all the instruments. A new GBV live line-up - Bobby Bare Jr. (guitar), Kevin March (drums), Nick Mitchell (guitar), Mark Shue (bass)- will be performing with Pollard at Sled Island.

I don't want him to play all the instruments! Surely, he's not a great drummer, bassist, nor lead guitarist.

Pollard may do it all, but there are few things that he does well. Playing guitar, bass, and drums are none of those. I may have over 20 (30?) GBV/Boston Spaceship/Ricked Wicky/Pollard LPs, but I miss Doug Gillard's guitar inventiveness and the interesting songs during the years where he didn't put out an album a month. These new albums (with the exception of Honey Locust which was really great) just sound like more of the same. Telling me that Pollard is now the only contributor in the band does not encourage me.

I wonder if Pollard is trying to make a statement: "I am Guided By Voices."

If you dig a little deeper into the recording credits, you'll see that Bob has played on more GBV recordings than you might have thought; especially during the "classic" years.

From the "Opinions On Guided By Voices" thread:

Never knew (and not 100% sure I believe) he drums on so many UTBUTS tracks. They're really solid performances, why didn't he drum more often?

I can only speculate, but maybe he never had to nor wanted to drum more often.

Are you saying there is already a thread in GBV, or just providing a link? Surely 2 threads is okay, there is a new Beatles thread every bleeping day.

The post just before mine referenced it. Thought I'd make it easier .

Hey, the more GBV threads, the better!

Man - the song isn't bad, but would it kill Bob to do a second or third pass on the lead vocal? "Pitchy" is an understatement.

The new GBV song is pretty good. But man, I've really been loving the new Robert Pollard solo album. Start to finish its his best solo effort in a really long time.
