    Hi R. Cat,

They certainly do. Peter Green and Paul Kossoff in my book. I couldn't think of one defining solo for PK but his fills and tone are great. Love PG's Man of the World - the song and the solo.
Has anyone else heard EC on George's Live in Japan?

    Hi Dave,

No, not exactly. I mean that Jerry was a magnet for my ears & eyes no matter what other musicians were on the stage. Jerry touched my heart & soul w/ every note he played and evoked emotions from me that no other musician ever has.

Re: WOW! I'm kind of surprised ...

That is 2 guitars and in answer to the question can two guitars be considered a solo - Thin Lizzy says yes! :) I used to love when they played that on WNEW back in the day. Speaking of Steve Hunter, I recently picked up his out of print cd "The Deacon" on No Speak (8.00 sealed!). Does anyone remember No Speak? It was an imprint on Miles Copeland's IRS label that released only instrumental guitar albums in the mid 80's.
I mentioned Michael Schenker! I believe he has received his official crown within the guitar playing community, where is he is justly lauded. As far as the public, what can you do? On a related note, what about the great Ulrich Roth? I nominate "Polar Nights" from Tokyo Tapes - killer! (this song was deleted from the remaster due to time restraints - what were they thinking?)

Following up on Uncle Al's comments on the value of economy - what about Eric Clapton's acoustic solo on Let It Grow? Woooeeee!! Tasty!!

Is anyone familiar with Pat Metheny's Synclavier solo on the live version of Are You Going With Me?

I have a cool story. In the 80's I went to a demonstration in New York where Pat Metheny demonstrated the Synclavier. It was the first instrument (to my knowledge) where you could sample a sound and then play that sound on the guitar (within a range of about one octave from the note sampled). So Pat says, "I need someone to sing one note per octave into the microphone. Your voice will be recorded and then I will play your voice. Does anyone want to volunteer?" A guy raises his hand and stands up. It's James Taylor! So James Taylor sings into the microphone and then Pat Metheny solos with James Taylor's voice! It was pretty neat.

I really enjoy Gary Moore's work on the disc 'STILL GOT THE BLUES'.

Three cuts that stand out with excellent extended solos are:

    1) the title cut 'Still Got The Blues'

    2) 'As The Years Go Passing By'

    3) 'Midnight Blues'

Another really good cut on that disc is 'King Of The Blues'

Would be great if this could make it to SACD. It's on the Virgin label.

Let it Grow to The End

Hmmm very tasty - yum in fact. I forget so many that moved me but that's definitely one.
Just remembered the interplay between John, Paul and George on The End. I can't think of a better three-way solo. In fact I can't think of any other three-way guitar trade off.

Excellent point! Isn't that what a great solo does? It evokes the feeling of the song. Like A Hurricane is another one I forgot to mention.

My fav "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" achieves that effect. If I were more in touch with my feminine side, I'd admit that the solo brings tears to my eyes......

I just never grew tired of the guitar work throughout Abraxas... Carlos of course.

Also, John Fogerty - Born on the Bayou

One more... An acoustical Clapton all over Unplugged. If what this guy does with a guitar during this set doesn't get you plugged in, well...

Joe South - Just love his fingerstyle guitar work,All My Hard Times,Games People Play,These Are Not My People,Gabriel and others. They don't write 'em like this anymore.

Link Wray's wah-wah guitar on Mordicai Jones' "Walkin' In The Arizona Sun".Very soulful.

Curtis Mayfield - Most everything from his Impressions and solo stuff.Very tasty.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I can't think of anything dazzling, but I know that the dueling guitars on the second movement of Derrick & The Dominoes' "Layla" move me bigtime. You can just feel the pain and anguish in those crying guitars!

One often over looked guitarist extraordinaire IMHO is Alex Lifeson of Rush. The particular solo that I'm thinking of is in Working Man on All The World's A Stage.

One that doesn't get mentioned too much: Dave Clemson extended guitar-playing during the second half of "Lost Angeles" in 'Colosseum Live'.

And for kicks, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (had to check spelling).

    Those two pieces are cousins.

Dave Clemson is rarely mentioned as a guitar hero.

For gooosebumps, all guitar playing in 'Stormy Monday Blues' - Allmans at Filmore.
