What a guy. Just as relevant now as 45 years ago, especially his message of peace and personal freedom, in an increasingly violent and troubled world. Listened to Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues Jimi Hendrix yesterday, it's a great comp.
Jimi is probably one of the most amazing stories in show business. His music is as valid today as it was 49 years ago. Happy birthday Jimi peace be with you and you're music is still turning heads!
Day off work tomorrow, so I have to play a load of Hendrix! And maybe some stuff on DVD too. Happy birthday, Jimi.
Jimi's birthday was Friday. He was born 11/27/1942. He shared a birthday with Bruce Lee... Just thought that was of interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimi_Hendrix
HappyBirthdayJimi! One of the first rock stars and still recognized as one of elite. 'Scuse me while I kiss the sky.
Ian I used too work with a guy from Manchester. I always kidded him about the 4th of July. He said the UK has the 4th of July It's right after the 3rd!
Very true, but since I posted it rather late Friday night (shame on us Hendrix fans for not remembering earlier in the day!), most posts are from today!
Happy Birthday Jimi Hendrix! Saw this posted in "Tribute" a 9/6/68 audio clip done at Thingamajig club (Reading) up on Youtube: The Iveys, - Purple Haze
How ironic that I re-purchased Smash Hits yesterday, not even knowing it was his birthday. This was the very first Hendrix album I ever owned back in the mid-80's (on vinyl!), and it certainly whetted my appetite for more: Still an excellent set for beginners, though it can be habit forming, which I think is precisely what a great "best of" set should do. This one surely did that for me, and I have been a lifelong Hendrix fan ever since. Cheers to you, Jimi! The music you left us remains much appreciated!
As always, my mind wanders to the music we never got to hear, the direction his music might have gone, the synthesis of the various styles of music that appealed to him. Yeah, sing on brother, play on drummer.
Wait a minute something's wrong baby, Lord, have mercy, this key won't unlock this door, something's goin' on here. I have a bad bad feeling that my baby don't live here no more. That's all right, I still got my guitar Look out now . . .
