It is a very big deal for dialog and it does that job very well. I'm all two channels these days and I really don't miss it. I don't watch much TV, or many movies. Most video is music related and I generally play records while watching sports. Getting that big Buick of a speaker out of my room made me happy.

I have worked hard to build all of the gear into the console - 5' long, three sections. Sections are a bit too narrow for modern standard gear, so a good bit of DIY. Music server, DAC, turntable, pre, amps all inside. Keeps wires and interconnects out of sight.

More work to do, better amps, and I have the big motor Rek-o-Kut turntable to restore and mount in a stone plinth.

I've built some console like pieces myself and its the heat that is tough to deal with. Equipment really works better if it has a good bit of air circulation.

There are times when I feel ready to move on from McIntosh and try something new, and then recall my wife has forbidden me to part with it, and has given all the components nicknames. I've had worse problems involving women IIRC.

You're not trying hard enough. Give something like this a shot and see what happens.

A very proud accomplishment. If nothing else, you've done more than most.

My experience as well. Open back, ventilated top plates, "noiseless" fans which aren't really but can't be heard behind the console. I do leave the lid up for it to cool, not good for dust but I haven't scorched the interior lid over the tubes yet.

So far so good but my next amp might be an issue, more tubes and class A = lots of heat.

FWIW, the console originally held Scott 299c amp and 333 tuner.

I will add that as expected, after looking at the appraisal for her engagement ring she noted out loud that it indeed cost more then my MC352.

You got to love an appraiser that does what he's told.

Now you're just bragging. Although disclosing what you actually paid for a piece of equipment is very controversial. but...the results speak for themselves.

She's a smart girl who knows how to use Google.

"Say Rolltide, what specific type of Audio Note speakers did you get? Just curious"

"Awwww baby, who can keep track of stuff like that? It's just a bunch of letters if that helps?"

Like others say, what you're spending on you isn't relevant, only the delta between it and what you're spending on her.

In some couples, that is actually considered to be suicidal. ;)

Impressive. Little know fact, Klipsch actually makes most of its money from a string of franchised divorce attorneys they operate and own. That's why they've kept that same speaker design for 70 years.

Marry a cool woman who like what you like and has similar interest. 20 years later she will still feel like a casual, live-in girlfriend.

my wife never has had a problem with anything, but she does roll her eyes and thinks that the components I started with were just fine and doesn't see the need for anything new and the records sound just as fine on my original table and amp as it does now.

In some ways me and my wallet wish we lived in that same world.

It's a good thing that your dealer accepted trade ins! Makes wife upgrades so much easier. :righton:

Agree. Unless it's something like big tower speakers, one can exchange one black box for another without too much notice. I never incurred much wrath for gear other than the time I rat-holed about $1500 bucks in cash to buy a new receiver.

In my day you were only allowed to marry a girl if it would strengthen ties with the local nobility or you wanted her families fiefdom to graze sheep on!
