    And the madness continues...
I picked up a new copy of Neil Young's "Harvest" yesterday (a copy that had come in a shipment just last week), on the recommendation of everyone here about there being a new "secret" remaster. The inner ring has an RE-2 designation (one up from what's been reported). Excited, I thought, man, could this even be an HDCD?

Underwhelmed sums it up. If this is indeed a new remaster, then they (the secret guys) are the worst engineers ever. I know that a few people here like the original version (longbox) that I sold a long time ago for it's flat sound, and it still sounds so weak... For a new remaster, I guess it's good that I can crank this all the way to 10 pratically and it doesn't sound shrill or harsh- but it doesn't have a lot of life either. Couldn't it at least sound as good as "Zuma"? I think my two-fer with "After The Gold Rush" tape sounds better. And I hear some new "crap"* that I hadn't heard before. (*Technical term for sonic anomolies) The hiss at the end of "Are You Ready For The Country" actually goes up in volume, then back down, then stops. There's more distortion on the vocals of "Alabama", and "Words" seems to cut off sooner than it should.

I don't think I'm going to try the "After The Gold Rush" now.

You should. I got the RE-1 of "Gold Rush" a while back and it definitely sounds better than the original: tighter, cleaner, more presence. But I don't blame you after getting burned the first time.

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

I just ordered After the Gold Rush (3 weeks to Perth) to pick up an RE-1 (I have the original) I'll have a listen and comment.
Interesting that Harvest sounds worse on the RE-2. Is Neil supervising the remastering? Pete Townshend did that for Live at Leeds Deluxe and it sounded less good than the 1995 release. John Astley on NoNoise.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

So what is it, the RE-1 or RE-2?. How do you acquire an RE-1? All these RE's!
What is the CURRENT RE number out there for Harvest? Very tire-sum!

    Hey Michael!

If you think that that's tiring........try to find a copy of Hot Rocks 1&2 and More Hot Rocks 1&2 on the London label first pressing without the fade-ups and downs. Now that's tiring!;)
