I returned the second disc from Mobile Fidelity's Frampton Comes Alive Gold CD.

'Shine On' actually skips (is missing digital samples) 16 seconds in.

They sent me a replacment that has the exact same defect.

I returned my copy of "You Are What You Is" when it first came out on CD. I thought it was defective, because the sound was so crappy and there seemed to be some hi frequency distortion on one channel. I returned the disc to my local "Camelot" and received another copy that sounded the same.

I called 818-PUMPKIN and asked about the CD. The guy that answered the phone apparently knew what I was talking about and said "That is something that Frank chose to do with the masters for the cd release." I wanted to say, "so Frank wants the CD to sound like ****?" But I held my tongue. Twelve years later, I still have my crappy sounding CD... And I am still looking for a nice used LP for a decent price.

I also returned the Metallica "Garage Days" 2cd set because it has a horrible "edit" (SOUNDS LIKE A SKIP TO ME) on "Last Caress/Green Hell" My new copy is the same and my local DISC JOCKEY refused to take my second copy back. They are now out of business, so I feel a little better about the situation.

I remember when I bought Kate Bush "The Red Shoes" as a new release. The price with tax was slightly over $20. I complained to the "sales girl" about the price and told her that I was paying that price "under protest". When I told her that I would return the CD if it sounded like crap, she told me they would not accept returns of open CDs because the quality control was so good on CDs that there were no defective CDs. I did not return this disc, but sometimes I wish I had. What the hell is Prince doing on a Kate Bush CD??

I bought a Limp Bizkit CD (same purchase I picked up a Bud Powell disc, go figure) and it was not clearly marked as an edit copy. They bleeped out all my cuss words, man! If I wanted that, I'd have taped the songs from the radio.

Well, I just dabbed a little acetone on the surface and claimed it was a manufacturing defect. Then I got the correct curse-filled version which of course was a revelation (well, maybe not).

In the cases of a lot of rap and modern hard rock goes that has cuss words in the music, if a CD has the Explicit Content label on the artwork, it is the version with the cuss words. etc. on it. If it isn't marked with the Explicit Content label, it is an edit copy

That's what I thought too, but I think they had a "clean edit" disc inside a package marked "Parental Advisory" ala PMRC. I know it was confusing. Or maybe I'm just too easily confused?

I never ever brought a disc back otherwise. If the sound was poor, I would usually trade the disc in to a used record store. Until recently, I never really considered holding the record companies accountable for poor product by actually returning the items. But these days, I'm much more judicious regarding what discs I buy, so there aren't many turkeys sound-quality wise.
