Not to anybody who has actually taken the time to sit and watch it (IMO).

I hold in higher regard every time I see it, most recently about 10 days ago. Mark your calendar, Casablanca will be shown as part of TCM's Big Screen Classics in theaters this November for its 75th anniversary.

I think one could even make an argument that Casablanca is better than Citizen Kane. For one thing, there's not a wasted moment of film.....its never boring, and the acting is top notch.
Above all, the screenplay is one of the best in cinema history.

Casablanca is a genuine classic, and it happens to be my favorite film.

For the most part, I agree.

Not at all and I didn't click on the article due to being obvious click bait.

The question is actually rather insulting.

I don't think the article is clickbait at all - the thread title is a little misleading (I don't think that's on purpose).

You need to keep in mind that Slate (the source) is very much geared to millenials and hipsters - folks who would have some issues with this kind of film, while we (this forum's demographic) grew up with a lot of pictures where a very old fashioned kind of acting and plotting was the norm. Those things don't bother us at all and most of us don't have the sorts of gender/politics/masculinity/patriotism concerns that seem to be the lifeblood of today's young people - at least the ones that read Slate. It's fair to bring these up to that audience. -

I do think the article isn't all that well written or focused, but there are some legitimate points in there, just not points that probably matter to most of us.

I'd like to think that a lot more than just some would have those concerns, even in this demographic.

I think we do, just not in the same way. And applying them to a film from 1945 is probably not fair. I could have worded that better.

It's a film a lot of people are aware but (probably) not that many have seen. I only saw it once, many years ago, and can remember liking it but having no compulsion to watch it again.

My son just saw it in a college film class and thought it was great (he usually laughs at me when he sees me watching a black & white movie), so I vote no.

On this list, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy are 3 of the top 20 films ever made. Yeah, those same voters might not be embracing "Casablanca".

Well, I actually quote like the LOTR trilogy and consider the movies to be in the top echelon of modern popular films.

LOTR is not in the same category as Casablanca, obviously.

I think most people "do" have the the concerns that you mention, and rightly so. It still is a great film.
