In the popularity department, PF became a most successful band than LZ?

Did they? If they did, i think the never ending chart success of the Dark Side of the Moon had something to do with it.

I think LZ was lightly bigger in 70's but PF remained growing in 80's and in 90's , especially after The Wall release. Nowadays I see Floyd's material, concept and mistic been more cosumed for young people than Led Zeppelin

    I think you maybe right
I see a lot more Floyd shirts out there on young people than I see Zeppelin.

It would stand to reason I guess as in the last 20 years Gilmour/Waters have been out there flying the flag more than the Zeppelin guys.

Yep. Looking to Facebook likes and Youtube views the difference is considerably large. On Spotfy too
But how abot at 70's? There was a consensus about which of them was the biggest band or it was very hard to say?

Has 'Pink Floyd' became bigger than Led Zeppelin?

No. Both 'bands' are the same now.

In the early 70's: LZ were 'Gods' - Folks loved PF.

I think Pink Floyd are very universal in the themes they deal with, and their music-at least the most popular songs-or a little bit more easy listening. Cinematic aspect of their albums, the concepts, sound effects, the artwork, and The sense of societal loneliness and alienation of albums like the wall will always appeal to every new generation of teenagers coming up.Their catalog is deep enough that if you are a fan who has worn out say Darkside of the moon, as you get older there are always things to discover like the early Syd Barrett and post Barrett pre Darkside era. I love, love Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd has a little bit more to keep you interested over the years and generations

It's possible. Personally, most of the people I know are more familiar with Pink Floyd than Led Zeppelin and most of those who know both bands prefer Floyd. They also seem to be more familiar with DSotM and The Wall, many couldn't even mention their favorite Zep album. Many even answered "the one with Stairway to Heaven". I bet this isn't the case in the USA and Europe though.

Don't forget that Led Zeppelin's supremacy was largely a U.S.-based phenomenon - and in the U.S. I think they were well nigh untouchable.

In the UK, my understanding is that Zep was a top-tier band to be sure, but nowhere near number-one and perhaps not even in the top three or five.

As for now, I have no idea what it would look like if one compared the two bands' popularity only using U.S.-based users/listeners. All I know is that Floyd and Zep seem to be two of the most cross-generationally popular '60s/'70s bands of them all.

They are both universally successful bands, and have both withstood the test of time. Does it really matter who was bigger?

Bands with more activity are going to receive more likes. There’s no real argument to be made for most of those bands being bigger than Zepppelin. Check back in a year if Zep is as active as they could be for he 50th.

Pink Floyd shirts fit the fashion "aesthetic" of the millennial, generation Z and iGen age groups more than Zeppelin does. The Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt seems to be in everyone's wardrobe, nowadays.

they’re both bands I appreciate, rather than love, but I’d always thought of Pink Floyd as the bigger of the two. I was born in ‘77 and Another Brick... was all over the radio when I was growing up whereas I didn't knowingly hear anything by LZ till I was 15.

At this point, I like both about the same, as far as "regard". But when I want to rock, I get the Led out.

Of course it doesn’t matter. But the question was posed and people are giving their opinions either based on perception or data backing up their claims. This is a music board; people are discussing music. It certainly doesn’t seem to be a band (X) is better than band (Y) thread.
