Have you ever simply forgotten to go to a concert?

I go to quite a few shows every year - nothing like my peak when I was out at shows three to five nights a week, but at least a couple a month.

Now, I have a pretty good excuse: in the last week both my father and my wife's mother have been in the hospital with serious conditions, so things have been crazy.

But last night at about 10PM, while waiting for my father-in-law to arrive (staying over with us close to hospital where his wife is) I was reading a local freebie newspaper and happened to look down at the Atlantic City concert listings: Ronnie Wood, Golden Nugget Casino, April 21.

Oh, the show I bought tickets for back on March 28. And completely forgot about. Granted, the tickets were at will call so I had no physical tickets to remind me, and there was no media buzz about the show, but...

So, about 45 miles away Ronnie was likely on stage at that very moment, and probably doing fine despite our absence. :sigh:

Anyone else willing to admit buying tickets for a show and then forgetting to go? :shake:

Yes. It's happened quite a few times. What about forgetting about a concert you were supposed to attend and instead you went to another concert that is on the same day, at the same time? It happened to me last night. I completely forgot about a Sharon Jones concert, and went to an Esperanza Spalding concert instead. At least I didn't pay for it. I would have been livid if I did.

Nope, but I've literally had nightmares about this happening!

I've come close to buying tickets to two different shows on the same night - hasn't happened yet, happily...

Yep. A few years ago I had a pair of Crosby & Nash tickets that I simply forgot about until after the show. $100 down the drain.

Now I make sure to set up a calendar reminder.

Never a concert, but I forgot to go to a baseball game, and I had free tickets and parking too!

I'm afraid I might so I setup a pop-up reminder on my Google Calendar to remind me of upcoming shows. And I always check it before I buy tickets to make sure there's not a conflicting event.

no, but there is a show I'm going to May 11, Will Call ticketing only, and will get zero press, so I'm reminding myself not to forget; a month ago I had purchased a ticket for the 24th, and soon after, a better show on the 24th was booked....so I "ate" the first one, and went to the other one

I bought tickets to see Fear some 16 years ago and ended up in the bar below the concert itself talking to my date all night and we completely missed the band.

Yup, I totally spaced a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert because I was kind of sick.

I was super-pissed at myself once I realized.

    Duh!

No, but I've gone to the wrong venue on many occasions. What can I say? I don't have a great sense of direction.

Never. I'm entirely too anal to forget about something as important to me as a concert. And if I am going to a concert for a friend and I don't really care to go, I still dread it enough that I can't forget it.

It hasn't happened to me, but I remember a story about a friend of mine. She bought a ticket to see Madonna in 2004 for the Reinvention Tour. Madonna performed three shows that year. My friend went on the third night... and realized her ticket was for the second night.

Never forgot. But back in 2007 (I think) my son was playing in his first Little League game (after having graduated from T-Ball & the coaches pitching) in a Fall league at night under the lights. He was around 8 and before the game started said "I feel like I'm playing in Yankee Stadium"! I had tickets for World Party that night in a small club in NYC (I'm a big fan..I think it was the last time Karl & the boys toured). I could'nt leave the game and blew off the concert. I'm sure many of you American fathers would have done the same.

Not exactly a concert, but last year my wife and I bought tickets to take our 2 year old to see Yo Gabba Gabba. On the night of the show I could not find the tickets, so I called the box office to see if we could still attend. The man on the phone told me he had "good news and bad news." The good news was I didn't have to keep searching for the tickets, the bad news was the show was the night before.

I've never done this or had a nightmare about it, but now that you've brought it up, I'm sure I will dream of it tonight.

Never. But I had to remind a girl I know to go to her concert. I was talking to her and asked her why she wasn't at the concert. She was shocked to find out she had completely forgotten about it. I think she thought it was the next week. She ended up missing it.

Never missed a concert because I forgot, but did miss a concert because of grid lock due to a severe accident which caused a 3 hour tie-up.
