I notice that Hawkwind is mentioned quite a bit in posts. So how many members are actually Hawkwind collectors/fans/afficinados. Hawkwind is my favorite band, I don't count the Beatles because you can't really put mortals next to gods. Ok so now back to Hawkwind, I've been a fan since '72 and have amassed a rather sizable collection. Like many, their early years, up to Warrior.. is my favorite but find things to like right up to their latest album. I guess unlike many bands there is no period or album that I don't like. I count myself lucky to have seen them on their American leg of the Space Ritual Tour, the 1999 Party in NYC back in 74.
I'm a fan! I've been a fan only since about 1996, you'll have to excuse me for my lack of age. I missed all the great acts of the 1970's. I was born in 1972. I probably should have been born in 1952 with the way my musical tastes are. I do think Hawkwind is great, overlooked, underrated. I do wish I had a chance to see them, especially the Space Ritual gig that you went to, Tommy. Just looking at their album pictures, they seem like such an interesting, unique subculture all of their own. It's like the band is an extension, a part and parcel of their subculture. And Hawkwind are the ones assigned to bring spiritual and musical enlightenment to their fellow earthling space travellers. A very intimate relationship with their fans. I've been pleasantly surprised that I have been able to find many of their albums on original vinyl over the past five years. If anyone wants to get into Hawkwind and collect their LP's, now is the time to start. Most of their albums have been released on CD, but some have not. I personally am partial to their sound on record. The soundstage is really large and deep, and the music just transports you to that other world, all without the use of "enhancers", I swear. Robert
I went to London two years ago to see their Christmas/New Year's Eve show, and it was a killer. Phenomenal.
