I bought the Halen stuff in 96/24 and they are hi-res versions of the 2015 CD remasters. "The Collection" is not the same as the previous HD downloads, which were close to flat transfers. The 2015 remasters sound similar to the 2000 HDCD remasters.

Did you get the live album? Also, I'm most interested in 1984. Which version is better?

Herbie Hancock "Mwandishi" (192 and 96) this is one I have been awaiting for some time. I hope that it was done well. The samples seem a bit lackluster but...

The older versions were very quiet and lifeless, IMO. I found myself trying to EQ them and I never got it right. The 2015 remasters are very similar to the 2000 remasters in sound quality, wave form and DR. If you're a DR guy/gal, these new versions are in the neighborhood of 8 and 9. Definitely louder and less dynamic than the earlier downloads. I'm leaning towards these new downloads, but that could be my empty wallet talking!

The live album comes with "The Collection". I doubt I'll ever listen to it after hearing DLR in the previews.

Guys-- Will I hear a difference downloading these HD tracks through my iPod, etc. Do I have to buy special equipment here?

Ha true. I'm thinking portability and convenience here. I can tell what sounds like crap/compressed through my iPod now. Obviously once there are more choices out there for players etc I will bite. I'm thinking short term until something is out there that fits my needs.

Pono needs to be a little smaller in size for me to get that. Should I start another thread? I don't want to derail this one.

Sometimes people get lost and wander into the wrong thread. It's understandable, um well, not really. :)

The Elder isn't one of the Japan CD's I own, so I dunno the track order. Paul Stanley would slap me silly for this, but I actually prefer the album opening with The Oath.

Should be noted that the 2 Best Of DLR songs "are 44khz/16bit encoded files".
OK - this has me feeling that the old ones are the keepers.
Or after hearing him on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Eddie & Wolf's background vox sounded fine, but DLR...his voice is not only shot, but what little he has left was almost all off key. It was beyond sad. :shake:

Anybody pick up the Specials releases? Why aren't these the deluxe remasters??

If you download them as AIFF or ALAC iTunes will convert them for your iPod. I feel these are the best these albums have ever sounded.

I don't think he would slap you. He isn't very fond of that album. The story just makes more sense when put in the correct order thats all.

The original Japan P33c is in the proper/intended order but omits "Escape from the Island".

The DR database gives about the same numbers for the 2000 HDCD and the 2015 remasters; 4-6 lower than the original CD's or the older HDTracks versions. I'm not obsessive about DR numbers, but for 2 digital versions that's too big a difference to ignore.

Thanks for the info on them. I was really hoping for a better DR as I didn't like the 2000's, so I guess I'll stick with my original CD's (which are Japan targets for I and 1984, WG silver for DD, MIJ for US for II and US for WACF and FW).

I didn't check, but hdtracks usually has more ecm stuff than other retailers. I would assume that title is available there, too (I would check myself, to compare prices, but I can't afford to buy anything else this month, and I can't trust myself to just look, either :o )

I anxiously await your thoughts after listening...

I would love to see the fat albert rotunda up in high res, as I have never heard that title...

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your DR numbers for the new VH remasters. Maybe the 24/192 is different because they are very dynamic. Here is what I got. My meter can't read hi res so these numbers are taken from the 16/48 AAC 320kbps conversions I made:

I was surprised to hear the VH was a brickwall job, especially with Bernie Grundman at the helm, so I am encouraged by Mij Retrac's report to the contrary.

Is there any controversy regarding the VH 192/24 version versus the 96/24 that haunted the Eagles hires release (i.e., the 192/24 was thought to be 192/18 due to the equipment used)?
