Hello- I am going to be making some mix tapes for my wife to listen to in the hospital (She's doing good! She's in the rehab-physical therepy section now, it's like healing boot camp! It's so painful for her, but what she needs), and I want to mix in some songs that have a "healing" theme to them; some songs that "promote" mending and wellness. Might be a difficult assignment, but I'm sure you guys can come up with some good stuff. There are some artists my wife catagorically will not want on there (mostly artists that are my favorites )- for example, Van Morrison's "The Healing Game" (or even "Til The Healing Is Done" are out- no Van The Man for her. She also likes songs put together that really sound similar to each other, but not obviously so until you DO put them together. A brilliant couplet (IMO) I came up with was Aerosmith "Dream On" and then Shakira "Underneath Your Clothes". Can you see it? (Am I nuts???) Please fire away, as I have a vast radio station-size vault to work with (well, not Jimbo-size, but it's ok). If this should be in the "Polls/Lists" forum, sorry. I don't know what kind of traffic that forum's getting yet. Thanks everyone! James
James: I am very gratified to hear your wife is on the road to recovery. God bless. "Getting Better" by the Beatles jumped to mind immediately. I'll keep thinking!
Great news, warms my heart. Obvious healing song: Todd Rundgren: Time Heals A couplet for you: A Dream Goes On Forever - Todd Rundgren Don't Know Why - Norah Jones
Great to have you in the house tonight Jimbo! You're the Master O'Mix Tapes! Now the question: Does "Getting Better" go on the overly-compressed/modern remaster side or the old CD with wide-dynamics- quiet as a mouse side? I'm not kidding here . I've done these before, and there's such a difference in volume when it's just done for a walkman (all she has in the hospital). Remember, the mood is important here too- and it's not just about health, but positivity too! I had a brilliant idea and put the Jayhawks "Smile" on next. This is being done in real-time as we speak- need more ideas, stat!! (Oh, sorry YBE, my wife can't stand Norah- I'll have to play those two songs back-to-back and check that out though...) James
Too bad, I was going to suggest "Crazy Love" How about: "She Makes Me Feel Good" - Lyle Lovett "Why Walk When You Can Fly" - Mary Chapin Carpenter
James: Thanks for the kind words, I'm only too glad to help in some small way! Here are some more ideas, mostly in the "positivity" vein. Please choose in accordance with your wife's tastes. Great news, James! Lots of great suggestions so far. A few more: Beatles: Eight Days A Week Elvis: Can't Help Falling In Love Danleers or Diamonds: One Summer Night Elton John: Tiny Dancer Elton again: Your Song Julee Cruise: Rockin' Back Inside My Heart(for you LA guys!) Gerry & The Pacemakers: You'll Never Walk Alone Freddie & The Dreamers: You Were Made For Me Minnie Riperton: Lovin' You Olivia Newton-John: If Not For You George Harrison: What Is Life Just a few love songs to remind her how much you care. And then there's: The Who: My Wife This last one is optional, but it's handy if you want to check on her sense of humor ED
Interesting choices there guys! Let me know if there's any more you have. I'm making a few tapes (she will hopefully only be in another 10 days or so), and I'm also doing songs with "Angel" themes or "angel" in the title (because she's my Angel ). Started with trying to find a selection from one of her "must-have" artists, Sarah McLachlan, and it worked well after "It's Your Life" by Milla (songs with life/hope themes also work). The "feel good" songs are going to be used more next tape. The one deficency I have in the collection is a lot of the 60's stuff (I have the DC5 2 CD set, but absolutely no James Brown for example- although I must have that one song on something somewhere...) The idea is to mix favorites in with songs she'd like or never expect- keep her interested! Thanks! James
Gordon Lightfoot. All sorts of stuff. Consider an evening CD where the music is very, very mellow... to lull one to sleep or into dreamland.
