Hmmm, me guess you want to talk to me Mike. :D

I can honestly recpmmend any DCC including the The Tull original masters.

The MFSL's are not perfect with a few exceptions and yes, always try for the Japan pressings between cat #'s UDCD 502 to UDCD 567 (there are 3 exceptions because they were never made in Japan to my knowledge. Thay are UDCD 564, 565, & 567).

The Wall isn't that great IMHO and yes, the first N. American pressings (Columbia pressings) are the best on CD.

    DCC:
    Coltrane, Giant Steps, $20
    Jethro Tull, Aqualung, $36

    MFSL:
    Doors, Doors, $16 (DCC ;) )
    Doors, Strange Days, $16 (DCC)
Pink Floyd, Meddle, $21 (Get it!)
Pink Floyd, The Wall, $81 (thumbdown)
    U2, War, $23 and $22 and $21 and $10 (seperate listings) :)thumbsup: )
U2, Joshua Tree, $75 (expensive, but the best version)
U2, The Unforgettable Fire, $24 (same as above)
Jethro Tull, War Child, $35 :)shake: )
Jethro Tull, Thick As A Brick, $43 :)shake: )
Rush, 2112, $37 and $15 (seperate listings) :)thumbsup: still not perfect but better than second place)
Rush, Signals, $11 (same as the other MFSL Rush albums)
Howlin' Wolf, The Real Folk Blues, $26 (ok, but not spectacular, kinda bright)
Nirvana, In Utero, $10 (only if you like the smiley-faced eq. settings)
Nirvana, Nevermind, $30 (same as above)
Allman Brothers, Eat A Peach, $31 (Killer album! Great sound!)
Emerson Lake & Palmer, Tarkus, $10 (get the original Atlantics for the best sound)
Emerson Lake & Palmer, Trilogy, $22 (same as above)
Wes Montgomery and Milt Jackson, Bags Meets Wes, $20
Bonnie Raitt, Luck of the Draw, $18
Queen, A Day at the Races, $20 :)D eq. but still the best on CD)

All IMHO of course Mike. ;)

Oh, cool! I would definitely want those. Haven't seen 'em on e-bay today.

That's cool, but I don't like the Eagles.

This is probably gonna sound real naive, but what is "smiley-faced eq?"

And, since the MFSL Thick As A Brick isn't getting enthusiastic notice here, what is the best version of the album on CD? And I'm pretty sure that it's not part of the recent remasters (I wish! Those sound damn good to me).

Interesting that the original pressings for ELP are the best. I remember reading that once. I have the Rhino versions. They don't sound bad, but still :(
Are the original pressings for ELP and The Wall OOP?

Both original pressings of ELP and The Wall are out of print. i like the remastered Wall myself. The original never did anything for me soundwise.

k... what exactly is the difference? The War CDs on e-bay are #571.

Shawn, can you post your system in your profile so I can see why the original version of The Wall didn't impress you. You did listen at a higher volume seeing as it's not boosted or maximized, didn't you?

Perhaps you might be in for a system upgrade to a more revealing system? Just a thought. :)

Mike, UD2's started from UDCD 567 and all have been since. IMHO U2: War is the best sounding of the 3 MFSL U2 albums.

Different mastering plants, different countries. UD1= Japan, UD2= USA

Smiley-faced-eq. settings are just that. Boosted in the top and bottom ends of the spectrum.

So this means that there are UD1 versions of War with lower catalogue numbers that sound even better than the ones I'm currently watching on e-bay, is that right? And I bet they're tons more expensive, too. Now it's a matter of deciding if it's worth it to wait.

I have 2 different shelf systems, nothing good. I can A/B the Eagles remastered Hotel California against the DCC and can tell no problem that the remastered Hotel is compressed and crappy sounding compared to the DCC.

One more time for ya Mike. UD1's are done in Japan. They are "only" from cat #'s UDCD 502 to UDCD 567, with the 3 noted exceptions in my prior post. Everything past UDCD 567 was a UD2, or UDII as they like to list it, made in the USA. The U2 War album was the first MFSL U2 release.

Awww, that explains it! The differences are there my friend, but I highly doubt without some serious investment anyone is going to notice. I guess you should perhaps ask yourself then if Dave's Classe system is better at revealing full nuiances than my shelf system. ;)

All remasters, including the MFSL have altered (MFSL) or boosted (every other I've heard) eq. settings with no exceptions to date.

    Dave, please rephrase this statement.

Something like "all remasters I have heard sound as if the eq. settings have been altered (MFSL) or boosted (others) in my system."

Where do DCC remasters fit in this - by your logic, they appear to have boosted eq.

    Regards,
    Geoff

DCC's are in a class by themselves that all others should aspire to be. I hope I've cleared up any confusion in regards to this previous statement. :)

Tonight I found a near mint Highway 61 Revisited gold (w/o slipcase, unfortunately) for nine bucks!

    I should be so lucky.

Many of the members agree with you. I recall reading a lot of posts that liked the Doug Sax remaster best.
