That 38 Special album might be interesting. Wondering if it's remastered, etc.

Hopefully these Eurythmics remasters aren't as horridly compressed as the ones from 2004 or whenever. Those things were atrocious.

Has anyone purchased the Eurythmics remasters yet? Very interested in comments on the sound and DR numbers for those. If not, I might have to be the guinea pig.

My impatience got the better of me.

Happy to report the Eurythmics remasters are done right (well, at least Sweet Dreams which is the one I bought to test)...

Spek shows tape hiss all the way up to 48kHz.

DR values are 11 to 15.

Sound-wise, it sounds one generation better than my original PCD14681 CD (which has just a touch of slight drop-out here and there in the cymbals, which is not found on the remaster). The high-end on the remaster seems goosed just a touch compared to my original CD, though again that might be due to the tape generation. The CD sounds a little darker, the hi-res a little brighter.

I did... most of the songs seems to be recorded on 48kHz limit equipment, there is barely anything in there above. Only a few songs have full 96kHz range. Oh, and all songs have the same bad DR numbers, mostly brickwalled.

I fully agree! That is a worthy remaster. Here are the DR numbers in detail:

Does anyone why "Touch" is in 44/24 only, while "Garden" and "Sweet Dreams" are in 96/24? Was "Touch" an all- digital production?

The SPAR code of the CD is AAD, and there is also no mentioning of a digital recording on the 1983 LP and CD liner notes, which would be unusual for an early digital production.

I might get the new John Prine (24/96) that is released today. I pre-ordered the vinyl, but it is delayed.

Thanks Alan. Scott Davies noticed a different mix for Somebody Told Me was used.
Nice to see they did good with these. How's the brightness, anything offensive? (ie) latest Fleetwood Mac

I use Spek to analyze frequencies (it's free).

I use JRiver to listen and to analyze Dynamic Range (not free, but it's also my main music library software, it's worth every penny and more).

And I use Audacity to look at actual waveforms when necessary (it's free).

I use Adobe Audition CC... but I'm doing more than just analyzing stuff... (would be too expensive just for looking at waveforms :) )

Thank you! Excellent news! Sweet Dreams is one of my favorite albums ever, so curious to check this out (although sad to hear they used the wrong mix of "Somebody Told Me").

Touch absolutely wasn't all-digital. Either the label effed up (happens all the time) and didn't send over a higher-res copy, or they couldn't find/didn't use the original analog master and resorted to an old digital copy. If anybody got Touch, would it be possible to tell if it's actually 24-bit, or just 16-bit bumped up to 24? Because the original digital master would definitely be 16-bit, as it was done in 1984.

(One other possibility - this is the remaster from the 2000's, in which case the DR numbers will be atrocious, unless this is based on the transfer they did in 2000-whatever, prior to the compression and EQ wonkery. Maybe the original analog master is damaged now?)

If they just put the 16bit master directly in a 24bit container, it will be easy to check on a bitmeter.
However if they did anything to it at mastering aside from small digital level changes, it will show up as 24bit.
