There was a strong similarity in their voices AND in several of their song choices - also "The sun ain't gonna shine anymore" sounds very much like a Phil Spector production.

Ha, that was a dumb mistake. . . Everybody knows he was covering Nicolette Larson.

Agree entirely, that's why I quoted them as an example.

:kilroy: This is not Stephen Stills, but a highly effective simulation:

:kilroy: I reckon that something like 95% of the population is under the impression that this is a Herb Alpert tune, and are puzzled as to why it isn't on any of his albums. Alright, now everyone blow the audience a kiss!

Buttefly Ball - "Love is all" is not a Beatle song :)

And also, "My Sharona" is of course by The Knack, but Youtube persists on saying it is by The Ramones.
The Ramones never played the damned song. ;)

When I was a little kid I thought Black Sabbath did Aqualung. I didn't really know either band at the time. I guess because of the riff. At least I was trying. :)

It would help if you (and others too) told us who these songs are by - I have no idea , unless you mean Bad boys by Wham which would be really strange

    Right. Sorry.

Tom Cochrane is the original singer of "Life Is A Highway"
Tom Cochrane - Life Is A Highway

Tom Petty's hit at the time was, I believe, "Mary Jane's Last Dance". How they got it wrong is beyond me.

"Bad Boys" often credited to Bob Marley, was sung by Inner Circle, and is most famously known as the theme song to the TV show Cops

Marley was dead and buried when this song came out. Doesn't even sound anything like him.

I know people who have insisted that Lonely This Christmas (by Mud) was actually Elvis Presley.

It's only when I've asked them to show me any proof of this that they've had to admit they were wrong.

I've even seen covers band websites where they have this song showing on their set list alongside Elvis' name!

Doesn't help that the used a lot of Alpert's Tijuana Brass recordings as interstitial music... The band featured on that iteration of the theme is the Mariachi Brass, featuring Chet Baker!

For years I thought "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" by Spiral Starecase was by Stevie Wonder:

Paul said, in a sly way, that Sinatra introduced it as "his favorite Lennon/McCartney composition" (or something like that).

Edit: Here is the quote by Paul:

I thought it was George's greatest track - with Here Comes The Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. They were possibly his best three. Until then he had only done one or two songs per album. I don't think he thought of himself very much as a songwriter, and John and I obviously would dominate - again, not really meaning to, but we were 'Lennon and McCartney'. So when an album comes up, Lennon and McCartney go and write some stuff - and maybe it wasn't easy for him to get into that wedge. But he finally came up with Something and a couple of other songs that were great, and I think everyone was very pleased for him. There was no jealousy. In fact, I think Frank Sinatra used to introduce Something as his favourite Lennon/McCartney song. Thanks Frank.
