Noticed somewhere that they don't have a plan for Halifax. (Where there are 2 HMVs...)

These are only the initial batch and look to be locations were HMV stores are shortly closing. It states in the article that further announcements of new stores will be made in the future.

60 something locations that are still up in the air.

    30 apparently getting Sunrise locations.

The bottom 3 are new Sunrise locations that may have had different city/mall names than HMV's site.

I'm sure we're not the only ones. Back in it's prime A & B Sound was the best.

Just left the flagship store on Yonge St.
    Empty handed I might add.
They need deeper discounts on the stuff that is left.
Would love to buy one of those King Crimson box sets.
    Sticker price is 329.00.
I can buy it from Amazon for 170.00.
The Stones mono CD boxes are gone.
Lots of DVD but only 30%.

Popped in to the location at the Avalon Mall in St. John's, NL. It's pretty much picked clean with respect to vinyl, which was pretty meagre in there at the best of times and CDs. Regular priced CDs were only 30% off. They had some deals on the two for a given price but there was no selection to tempt me. Left empty handed. To be honest, if Sunrise takes over that location in the mall I still won't be in there much as I can't stand the mall.

  10. I wouldn't go quite that far, but for an A/V electronics store their selection of CDs was pretty incredible. Even in secondary markets the outlets had a great selection of indie and import discs.

A&B was cheaper than anywhere else, that's why people liked it so much.

Western Canada was known as the best place in the world to buy CDs due to A & B Sound. New releases were $11.88 or $12.88. There were also Super Sales a few times a year about every 2 months where white tag CDs were 20% off and red tag CDs were 10% off. Lot of white tag CD were regular priced at $18.99.

I remember their back catalogue being quite comprehensive as well. I bought many complete or almost complete artists' catalogues in one go a lot.
The last few years they had that sale every long weekend. The opportunity to have three fantastic days driving to the various locations ranging from Marine Drive near the airport to Abbotsford was fun.

I was in the St.Vital Centre (Winnipeg) HMV on Tuesday and was talking to a couple of guys who work there. There were 4 stores here, they told me the KP Mall and Polo Park locations were getting Sunrised, their location and Portage Place were not. I asked them how they knew, and they told me that their location and Portage Place were selling off store fixtures, racking etc and that Polo Park and KP locations were not.

  15. Their Boxing Day sales were pretty awesome as well.

Well they better fill the stores with vinyl, new and used. The record show this weekend was very busy with both young and old dropping big money on over priced Scarborough basement pressings. The market is hot and they should really capitalize.

Problem with HMV was too much floor space given to movies, tv shows, and toys. I mean they had rows of dust covered DVD's! People download or by bluray now. So whenever you went in there to buy music you left empty handed and went online to buy the cd or lp you were looking for since they only stock "best of" cd's and the new pop releases.

Interesting. Easy to understand why Polo Park is getting a Sunrise since it's the biggest mall in the city, but isn't St. Vital the second biggest? I've never been to the other two.

Not sure, St. Vital and the KP mall I don't find much different. Yep, I'd say Polo Park is the biggest. My theory about St.Vital not getting a Sunrise is that St. Vital has the only London Drugs in the city, who also sell vinyl. But I'm just guessing at that being the cause...

I didn't realize LD sold vinyl. They must have started that recently...the last time I was there (probably Christmas 2014) they didn't have any music at all, that I saw.

    Isn't the Blu/DVD split still 30/70 or 20/80?

They may have started carrying vinyl shortly after the date you mentioned. The one here has always carried BD and DVD movies and concerts, and CDs. They also sell audio/video equipment and have a small listening room.

It was still 30% off CDs, DVD, and BR at St Laurent today. They had also received more stock in as they certainly had CDs they didn't have a couple of weeks ago, they also had a Bowie "Who Can I Be Now " box, which was about $130 after discount.

Same thing at the St.Vital location here in Winnipeg, they had some stock that wasn't there a couple of days ago. I overheard someone at the till saying they had got more items in from store(s) already closed in Sask. I picked up Alexisonfire blu ray concert for my son that wasn't there a few days ago, $14.99 then 30% off.
