You certainly got to love the hostility and insecurity the pairing of a strong female character to an often incompetent male character on the show. She “wears the pants” so to speak in the relationship and is the serious one, and is the disciplinarian and many men can’t handle that. Notice the derogatory word directed towards her in the above post and how it’s a word that’s directed toward females. It reeks of insecurity and contempt towards the role she had in the household.
The Jill character was a massive hypocrite. Consider she threw a fit when Tim bought season tickets for the Pistons but she decided to spend money on college without discussing it with Tim She almost ruined Tim's hot rod leaving it in the snow but somehow found time to blame Tim for that She had sexual dreams about the granite guy and even got kissed by him as she rode in a car with him, but gets pissed when Tim glances at a woman When she didn't get the magazine job in the very first episode she mocked Tim and his show
Had the pleasure of working on this show for it's full run at Disney Studios, Burbank, Ca. Lots of laughs taping the Tool Time segments.
I like the Tool Time parts. The other half with the family wasn’t bad, but did not deserve the focus it got in the later seasons.
Favorite cast member/members to work with? Favorite episode or episodes to work on? Favorite guest star/guest stars?
The other half? Tool Time wasn’t half the show. The show is called Home Improvement for a reason. The family aspect of the show was always the primary focus.
Do you really want me to list everything Tim has done to wrong Jill? You’ll find an exponentially larger list.
I would really like to find either the whole Backstage Pass special or the E! True Hollywood Story about the show.
I was never a big fan of this show—it seemed to be the same thing every episode, with Tim going to the neighbor for advice on some problem, Tim misunderstanding what the neighbor said, etc. Last Man Standing was/is a much better program, IMO.
Some of the lines Tim said on Tool Time would NOT work in today's world "if your wife is nagging you put tape over her mouth" (on women being in the garage) "they dont belong there"
