How do you listen to movies with a mono track? Through monitors or center speaker only?

An even bigger issue I've noticed is that many mono tracks are getting louder and over noise reduced. Just the other night I was running Shout's new BD of The Pink Panther and having to turn down the volume at it being so screechy and loud. Then out of curiosity I threw on the old DVD.
The mono was perfectly fine and has a slight layer of natural hiss. And to top that the old Laser sounds even better.
So much for lossless mono these days...grrr.
