I don’t know. I’m willing to give another shot when it’s released on Blu-Ray. My indictment is that it’s the only Star Wars film that I found myself not paying attention to.

I completely understand that feeling...TFA and TLJ both left me similarly cold and not engaged in the offerings. At the end of the day, either a movie moves you or it doesn't...it's really as simple as that.

Part of the appeal of Rogue One for me is seeing the backstory unfold of how the Rebels got the Death Star plans and how that leads into the events of Star Wars...my favorite movie of all time. I consider them both to be a somewhat single entity these days...part I and part II of a single story.

I also found the fact that everyone gets smoked at the end of Rogue One adds an emotional weight and gravitas to the movie itself and to Star Wars. You get a much better sense of the urgency and the high stakes the Rebels were fighting against, which makes Star Wars take on an even more desperate, intense nature.

I'll dissent here & add that Rogue One did nothing for me; by the end of the film, I couldn't even tell you the names of the characters. When the ROBOT'S death scene is the only moment of the film that comes close to offering emotional impact, that's a problem. Obviously, other folks loved it. And some merely liked it.

I liked it better upon my second viewing, but it still seems like "Star Wars porn" to me, like the shining of a floodlight into every nook & cranny of the SW Universe: it's exciting to watch at first, but at some point you just want to say "ewwww, that's enough of that!"

But I still see all the movies. Solo was ok. The Lazy Jedi had a few parts that I genuinely liked a lot (and a whole lotta crap). YMMV.

Heck, maybe Walrus Man will get his own spin-off film & it'll be an amazing slice of sci-fi noir?!

If they executed it right, "Walrus Man" could indeed be an awesome movie....!

I keep thinking of "The Guardians Of The Galaxy" here...when I saw the first trailer I thought "now this movie is going to suck. Who are these people? Never heard of any of these characters"...even found a couple very annoying at first glance. The trailer left me absolutely cold and flat.

Was very pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the movie after I saw it (was merely 'something to do' on a summer night) and it made me a fan of the series. Great characters, witty, fast dialog, and some very somber, deep parts which made you empathize and connect with the characters. A fun movie that made me look forward to other offerings in the series. Another example would be "Deadpool"...a character not known at all aside from comic book fans. Look how universally loved the movies and character is now (and profitable). It's all in 'the execution'....by competent studios with vision, daring, and creativity.

My point is, if studios craft compelling, intense, surprising, fun, deep stories and execute them well, you can take 'nobodies' and characters you've never heard about and knock it right out of the park...they make those movies a must see.

So, while people are saying Solo was a story nobody needed to see, etc. and stand alone movies about Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, etc. could never work, I argue that if done right (ala Guardians, Deadpool) they could make incredible movies about these familiar characters that would be amazing (and oh, so profitable)...

Unfortunately, I'm not all that confident Lucasfilm can do any of that in it's current state...they seriously need some vision, coherence, creativity, and new blood...that is clear (to me anyway).

Viva "Walrus Man: A Star Wars Pond Story" and "2-1B: Tales From A Rebellion Frigate Droid" lol....!!!

For me, the loyalty for the franchise, even though there are more misses then hits, continues due to how much I loved the original series immensely and how deep they got under my skin. I love the originals so much that I continue to want to see more and more of that universe.

That is also why I get so bent out of shape and let down since most offerings are either 'just ok' or outright horrible.

I just want more of the Star Wars magic; it's there, waiting for some talented team to get it right.

How do you feel about the announced D.B. Weiss and David Benioff series of films and the upcoming Jon Favreau-produced live action series? You didn’t like The Last Jedi, so I’m guessing that you may be a bit skeptical about the Rian Johnson trilogy.

What I find intriguing about these projects is that they are blank slates, new stories with new characters set in the Star Wars universe.

Definitely a ray of light and glimmer of hope with these announcements; having the creators of "Games Of Thrones" involved in the Star Wars is indeed very exciting and inspires optimism, as does Jon Favreau's involvement (he 'gets' these types of movies).

As for Rian Johnson, I hope he will last for the entire new trilogy and oversee them with a unified vision. That, at the very least, would improve things as far as the 'main story line' goes. I'm somewhat optimistic for the next round actually, even if I didn't like TLJ much. I think that a lot of the issues with TLJ may not of had a lot to with him, but the constant meddling of 'the committee' and he just had to toe the company line.

At any rate, what all of these new series/offerings needs is for Lucasfilm to pick the right people, let them get on with it, and get out of the way. There is some incredible talent lined up for the future...I hope they can just 'do their thing' so there is no paralysis-by-analysis at Lucasfilm/Disney.

Those directors can clearly assemble a team of daring visionaries who can helm each series and can build fantastic, consistent, deep, entertaining worlds and stories...awesome.

Absolutely, me too! I'm all on board with new stories, characters, and worlds set in the SWU (Star Wars Universe), big time.

I'm cautiously optimistic about what the SW future holds these days...

Star Wars. The best and the only one that can exist without the others. In my world there is no Episode IV garbage.

Now that said if I have to.

IV, III, V, I, II, VI, Rogue ONE, VIII, VII...haven't seen Solo yet.

Having never rewatched the prequels, I kind of find them hard to rank, as my memory is fuzzy. I haven't seen a Star Wars film since Rogue One (which I liked) but The Last Jedi never came to Tryon and, after reading the reviews, I never felt the need to come to it, either.

They came out at certain points of my life wich played a big part as to how they impacted me.
The newer ones I tend to not to disect and judge every aspect. It`s all just entertainment for me,they are all fun in their own way. As for the others, the original three will always have a special place in my memory.I`ve just been to tired and worn from work to absorb the newest one.I do want to see it before it goes out of the theaters.
I`ve heard good things about the Mandalorian from an often critical friend.
Some things in the original that was magical was just how some of the aliens or puppets moved and interacted in a goofy way like Chewie or Yoda. The newer modern effects are cool two just different for me.

I thought about starting this very thread but the holidays interrupted... to paraphrase another post I wrote, I have been a fan since '77... that Halloween we had to fashion our own costumes since none were commercially available! I was Vader since I had a WW2 German helmet and gas mask. I have loved and loathed these flicks in equal measure. From best to worst:

    1) Empire
    2) Star Wars (I'll never call it New Hope; diminishes how majestic this seemed in '77)
    3) Rebels tv series - for me, the best thing since Empire. Truly love it.
    4) Rogue One
    5) Return of the Jedi
    6) Solo
    7) Revenge of the Sith
    8) Force Awakens
    9) Attack of the Clones
    10) Phantom Menace
    11) 1978 Christmas Special (remember waiting for this excitedly in 78, but hadn't seen it again til last year... uh... wow)
    12) Rise of Skywalker
    13) Last Jedi

Still watching Mandalorian so no rating yet. Haven't seen every Clone Wars cartoon... it's ok but it's no Rebels.

    1. Episode 4
    2. Episode 9
    3. Episode 5
    4. Solo
    5. Rogue one
    6. The rest are crap.

FWIW, I saw episode 4 in 1977 when it came out a total of 27 times in the theater. I even bought plastic model kits of the X-wing, Tie fighter and Millennium Falcon and displayed them proudly in my house, complete with effective "battle damage" paint jobs (I used to build a lot of WWII aircraft models).

But I grew up. I see the series for what it is: Fictional action movies with some good story lines occasionally. I don't expect a lot from that genre.

I saw the latest in 3D. With sci-fi action movies that have a lot going on visually, that really helps.

I wish I could have seen episode 2 in 3D. The overwhelming battle scenes and the "falling through traffic" scene would proably have been pretty good in 3D. It wouldn't have saved the movie, but those parts might have been visually cool. :)

I think Vader as Luke's father worked brilliantly, even if it wasn't originally intended. Why else was Obi-Wan was hanging around on a craphole planet like Tattoine, unless it was to watch after Luke. Him being Leia's brother was a bridge too far.
