    For me:

    30s/40s - 1%
    50s - 13%
    60s - 32%
    70s - 27%
    80s - 10%
    90s - 7%
    00s - 5%
    10s - 5%

    Or put another way:

The golden age of recorded sound (roughly 1954 - 1979) = 72% of my collection
    The modern era (1980 - 2018) = 27% of my collection

Only counting 12" vinyl, not 7" or CDs...And keep in mind I've only been collecting for a few years. :D

By release date, not issue date:

    1950s: 2
    1960s: 12
    1970s: 110
    1980s: 72
    1990s: 4
    2000s: 3
    2010s: 16

From iTunes, based on counting the original year of release (not reissue) of the individual tracks, rather than the albums:-
    Code:
    1910 0.01%
    1920 0.27%
    1930 0.32%
    1940 0.15%
    1950 1.52%
    1960 21.31%
    1970 41.18%
    1980 19.59%
    1990 10.33%
    2000 4.14%
    2010 1.17%

    42,701 tracks, in total

I am, but evidently I have too many title entered in the database. I guess it’s now limited to 1400 or less.

    1960 - 137
    1970 - 319
    1980- 432
    1990 - 59

I agree with @AlanDistro that age is important here - I'll be 43 in about a week.

I counted them myself, based on the original release date or recording date. Collections that span over more than one decade are counted under every decade that has more than one song.

    1920s: 4
    1930s: 17
    1940s: 35
    1950s: 135
    1960s: 68
    1970s: 122
    1980s: 225
    1990s: 85
    2000s: 58
    2010s: 17

If it counts by re-issue date then I'm not really sure how informative or useful it is.

Using the "Year" field in iTunes-

    Pre 1930 - 37 (0.16%)
    1940s - 154 (0.65%)
    1950s - 873 (3.69%)
    1960s - 4,688 (19.83%)
    1970s - 3,478 (14.71%)
    1980s - 3,331 (14.09%)
    1990s - 4,403 (18.62%)
    2000s - 4,256 (18%)
    2010s - 2,349 (9.94%)

Or, to order the decades from highest to lowest-

    1960s
    1990s
    2000s
    1970s
    1980s
    2010s
    1950s
    1940s
    1930s
    Pre 1930

    Or more visually-

I'm quite happy with this nice spread across the decades! :) (I'm mid 40s if that helps for context)

Don't have my stuff on Discogs but I'm in the mid 60's through the mid 80's mostly with a heavy focus on '75 - '82 :). That said, most of my CD's focus on mid 80's to mid 90's,

More from the '60s and '70s than any other decade. Maybe there's something to the theory that we favor the music we grew up with.
