Hey, gang... I thought this one was never issued on CD: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=878025302 Any ideas? Looks authentic.... (Gorts: I thought it would be OK to post this question on the Music forum as I am interested in feedback on the validity of this CD - if you want to move it to the Classified section, feel free....signing off Gorts....) Ben
I'm not an expert, but wouldn't asking the seller what label this is on sort of solve, without a doubt, whether it is a boot?
One more time, if it’s a CD with: Beatles MFSL or first four in stereo Original 60’s Dave Clark Five LP’s Rolling Stones Decca Era Digipack Released on Yellow Dog, Vigatone, TMOQ or Marginal Or One of Neil Young’s “Missing Six” (On The Beach, Journey Through The Past, American Stars & Bars, Hawks & Doves, RE-ACT-OR, Time Fades Away) IT IS A BOOTLEG
Another guarantee that the CD is a bootleg: Any compilation or reissue of original Cameo-Parkway recordings on CD.
Let me add that just because it's a boot doesn't mean it's gonna be bad. It might well be worth buying. It is, however, a boot. I've included a link to a webpage that goes over the reasons for it's obscuritity. Factual or not, I do not know... On The Beach
When I look at Gordon Lightfoot eBay auctions, I never see the "Final 4" bootlegged but then, those will be issued on CD legitimately anyway.
Please add to the list Beatles: Hey Jude (the album, not the single). Found this in Florida once for $20.00. As it was a needle drop and $20.00 US is $32.00 Canadian and I can get a needle drop done for me for $5.00 I somehow passed on it.....
Also, any CD with Phil Spector stereo is a bootleg as the legit CD releases are in their original mono.
Bradley, In your two most recent posts you have illustrated two big holes on CD: 1) The Cameo-Parkway catalog (will Allan Klein ever allow this to be released on CD?) 2) The Phil Spector contolled recordings in their previously available (vinyl) Stereo mixes. I have never understood why these gems have never been released on CD when they were released on vinyl (in many forms) years ago. I understand that Spector doesn't like Stereo. But with the Cameo-Parkway catalog, I am more baffled. Surely, if released on CD, gems from the catalog would sell very well...Chubby Checker, Orlons, Dee Dee Sharp, Bobby Rydell, ? and the Mysterians, Terry Knight and the Pack and many, many more hits by other artists. Bob
Bob, It is rumored that legal issues involving non-payment of royalties to abkco artists is at the center of Klein's motivations to keep these recordings in the vaults.
sgb, In other words, Klein may owe money to some of those artists, does not feel legally or morally obligated to pay and he is sitting on the tapes, versus releasing them, in order to avoid the possibilty of having to pay, based on a past or future judgements, even larger royalties or residuals. I should have realized. The Cameo-Parkway catalog may never get released! Bob
Some is a generous/polite way of putting it, Bob. But the Rolling Stones have made less generous comments about the man. Luke could speak volumes about this.
A lot of "boots" released in Germany for the original Cameo/Parkway stuff is actually quite stunning. I own a compilation of the Orlons and ? & The Mysterians "96 Tears" Lp on CD. I'll be dammed if they're needle drops!
Sckott, I have those needle drops by Chubby Checker, Orlons, Dovells, Dee Dee Sharp and Bobby Rydell. The Dovells, Dee Dee Sharp and the Orlons are the best. The Chubby Checker CDs that I have are not very good. Bobby Rydell--acceptable. I have the original ? and the Mysterians LP that I use for 96 Tears (originally named 69 Tears, by the way). Bob
Speaking of "On The Beach"... I've never been able to get any confirmation on this rumour that I heard from a WEA rep around '97, that there were promo advance copies of the "missing six" titles all ready-made, in HDCD and everything. These would have been from '96 when they were the closest to coming out legitimately. Anybody know anything about these supposed promos- which would be the "holy grail" of collectible promos? nashreed (known collector of promos)
I'm pretty sure this is true; Musician magazine even ran a review of this batch of CDs, which of course never came out. I believe "Don't Be Denied" from Time Fades Away wound up on some promotional WEA compilation CD as well at the time (I saw such a disc listed for sale in Goldmine some time ago). I got all excited, as this was before I found any of those albums on LP ... All for naught.
Jeff, Do you know the name and/or catalog # of said promotional sampler??? Must...find.. Must ...have....!!! nashreed
