I have many cassettes. I think you can get them all on CD now.

The new Radiohead box contains a cassette, that is said to not be available elsewhere.

Here are a couple of cassette only releases in my collection.
The Replacements - **** Hits The Fans
Teencanteen - Sister (also has first ever band live performance on the flip side)
Hang In There A DIY Covers Compilation (I've got it for the babyarms Throwing Muses cover of Not Too Soon)
NME Brat Pack (has a live acoustic version of Smashing Pumpkins - Spaceboy)
Creation For The Nation (has Teenage Fanclub demo of I Don't Care)
NME Field Trip (has Teenage Fanclub Free Again live at Glastonbury '93)
Melody Maker Reading Present 1995 (has a live version of Teenage Fanclub Mellowed Out)
VOX Live & Unreleased (has live version of Teenage Fanclub Everything Flows)

These are just the ones sitting out waiting to be digitially archived. Though unintended they do represent a nice cross-section of types of cassettes I have in my collection (my least favorite format to collect). The Replacements is a cassette only release that was limited at the time cassettes were huge (1985). The Teencanteen is a cassette only single with a b-side only on the cassette released in 2015 and the DIY Covers Compilation was released this year presumable because it represented an affordable way to release the material. The others are magazine cover releases with exclusive tracks from around the time that CD was king but still too expensive for magazine covers. Magazine associated releases (flexis, cassettes and CD's) are one of my favorites to collect because there are lots of exclusive tracks by bands I like and the pre-inexpensive CD pressing time frame ones are the kinds of things that almost never make it to CD and that will never stream.

How about the cassette only mixes of Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues?
    Can they be found elsewhere?

I have that on CD, only it's not an official release. If we are going to mine this topic to exhaustion, it should be made clear whether we are really talking about digitization, or "released officially".

I believe they are now the versions on the standard CD.

During the growth of Drum & Bass/Jungle in the 90's a frequent label compilation format was CD/2CD of unmixed tracks, with a cassette release of the tracks mixed together. The cassettes are long forgotten now, even though the music was fundamentally designed to be heard "in the mix".

There's a lot of promo-only stuff from the '80s and '90s that was only issued on cassette, including pre-release albums that got canceled, live tracks, etc.

Another way to look at it is, can you more easily find some albums on cassette that are prohibitively expensive on vinyl (or cd)? Just as an example, at my regular cd store I noticed a Steely Dan Sun Mountain casette for $1, these are the pre-Dan recordings that someone else owns apparently, but maybe to get that same material on an LP would be a lot more?

Not sure, but Sun Mountain isn't one of them - that has been reissued endlessly on vinyl and CD, under different titles, and a simple Discogs search shows CD copies available for $5, LP for $11. If you found them used in a store they would probably be cheaper.

i'd wager the majority of amateur recordings made between 1970-1990 probably hasn't, so quite a high percentage.

There are too many rules on the forum already, lets leave the excessive rules for the vinyl only people

I had a couple of "cassingles" from Fine Young Cannibals. Each had an unreleased track on them. I don't believe they ever surfaced on CD. Someone may know otherwise.

Found these cassettes for a dollar each. Haven't seen it on CD. But the John Stewart homepage is selling the CD for $30.
