Long story short, I'm going to come into owning a laserdisc player, a Pioneer LD-V2000, so, how should I get into Laserdisc? Anything specific with setup? Recommended titles?

Ransom with Mel Gibson has a extended cut. The only want to see it that way is on LD. It goes for under $10.

  6. If you have a working LV Player, you're probably in good shape. Some people are practically giving their discs away (except for the really good/rare ones)

I have a lot of great LD to DVD transfers. They do look and sound better than VHS, but pale in comparison to DVD. No first-hand experience though.

Mostly concert and music video titles.

There are some nice Criterion sets, but they are increasingly being replaced by Blu-ray versions now that Criterion is licensing from MGM and Universal again.

There is a channel on You Tube " Culturedog". I found this by accident but if want to know all there is to know about LD, this chap really knows his stuff.

Madonna's Blond Ambition concert (from Nice) was exclusively released on LD and still hasn't made it to DVD or Blu-Ray. Great disc.

Belinda Carlisle has a video anthology on LD. Her videos were included on Edsel's deluxe reissues of her albums but the earlier videos don't look too great. They look better on LD, surprisingly.

The Taxi Driver LD from Criterion is one of my faves. The evocative cover and Martin Scorsese's excellent commentary. I also liked the Aliens Special Edition.

Song of the South and Let It Be come to mind as titles unique to the format.

All of the new wave stuff I've seen had been music videos. May be some Japanese imports though.

If you like Devo, check out Neil Young's Human Highway LD.

It worth seeing once. Then you never have to watch it again. Devo is probably the best part about it.

Many childrens movies not on Blu-Ray that are P&S only on US DVD can be found in widescreen on LaserDisc in NTSC (ideal format) and R2 DVD if you can handle the PAL speedup

Honestly about 90% of it has made the jump to DVD/BD. Most of the stuff that hasn't is music related: concerts, Let It Be, music videos, etc.

People keep saying Star Wars, but those exact masters were released on DVD about ten years ago and are technically superior to the LD versions (which isn't saying all that much).

Looks like it doesn't like Dolby Digital, static in right channel

So, should I only go for LDs that have analog tracks?
