I WAS aware this was out and vaguely awware of Tate's talent and story; as many of you know, his "Get It While You Can" release was reissued in the UK in 1995, but is out of print (and out of sight, price-wise). Wonder what the odds are of walking into Best Buy tonight and finding it. Story in today's USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2003-07-14-tate_x.htm doug
Wonder what the odds are of walking into Best Buy tonight and finding it. Referring to new Tate release (July 1), Rediscovered. doug
this CD is worth whatever you have to pay to get it. it is a touchstone of 60's soul that not much else measures against. 2nd disc is very good too,has covers of Jemima Surrender and Girl from the North Country On it.
Re: Re: Howard Tate, Rediscovered What about a vinyl copy? (shameless plug) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43702&item=2543852144
By sheer luck, I happened to be up and flipping thru when I heard letterman promo Howard Tate(!) going into a commercial. Sure enough, there he was in the flesh, singing Get It While You Can (he's recut on the new release). Sounded great, and look not too bad for the wear (he spend over two decades "lost" as a homeless person). I noticed an older fellow behind "Shaff" on keyboards and wondered, could it be, Ragovoy himself. Sure enough, on the closing segment, Shaffer name-checked "the Man." Hope Rediscovered does decent in sales, and maybe they'll reissue the original Get It While You Can at retail for less than $150. doug
