Got to my local record store as they were putting out a huge vinyl collection that they had just purchsed, all in excellent condition. I was told by a staff member that one other guy had gotten there before me and bought a bunch of stuff. I wonder what he got? They were just putting out the R's when I got there, so I was grabbing stuff as soon as it hit the bins. Lots of other things by these artists that I already owned were available, almost everything by the Stones, Reed, REM and Roxy.

    Lou Reed - Berlin
    Lou Reed - Blue Mask
    REM - Chronic Town
REM - Fables of the Reconstruction
    REM - Dead Letter Office
    REM - Reckoning
    Roxy Music - Stranded
    Roxy Music - Siren
Roxy Music - The High Road
    Iggy Pop - Soldier
    Iggy Pop - New Values
Rolling Stones - Miss You 12" Disco version, b/w Far Away Eyes
    Velvet Underground - VU
    Tom Verlaine - S/T

Motorhead - Ace of Spades (Profile)

I had never seen the Fela or this version of Ace of Spades before. Mighty Real is a great collection of disco songs, most of which I have already, but couldn't pass it by. Motorhead fans, sorry about the missing umlauts.

I had a half day of vacation today so I hit a few thrift stores and picked up a nice haul.

The BOC LP cost $2.99, everything else in this picture was $1 or less
    [IMG]

The two unopened classical sets only cost $0.77 each. FWIW, the Esso Steel Band LP is autographed on the back by Hubert Smith, Jr. - the band leader (Bermuda, 1959). Everything else in this picture was $1 or less
    [IMG]

A mixed bag of old & recent 45s
    [IMG]

The Meat Loaf CD is a Japan 25-8P CD. The Peter Tosh CD is a Austrian DADC made compilation. The Al Green Greatest Hits is an Audio DVD. Everything from $1 to $2.50
    [IMG]

Lastly, a few music related DVDs - $2.40 each

Goodwill did not let me down today.
A CD sampler from Eagle Rock of blues guys from 2008: Albert Collins, John Mayall, Rory Gallagher, etc.

    And some decent vinyl:
    Aretha Franklin - Aretha Arrives
Tower of Power - East Grease Bay
Richard Thompson - Live (more or less)
    Beach Boys - Concert
    The Band - Cahoots
Paul McCartney - Give My Regards to Broad Street
Various - The Columbia Sound: A Collection of 16 Original Big Hits

The Richard Thompson has apparently never been on CD (at least in the US) as the vinyl goes for pretty big bucks on Amazon.

The Columbia sampler was a first time sighting for me. It's from 1968 and has the following track listing:
    Side One
Two Little Kids - Peaches and Herb
    C'mon Home - The Buckinghams
    Mockingbird - Aretha Franklin
Garden of Earthly Delight - The United States of America
    Omaha - Moby Grape
So Long, Marianne - Leonard Cohen
    Uptown - The Chambers Brothers
Kicks - Paul Revere and The Raiders

    Side Two
Somebody To Love - The Great Society with Grace Slick
You Better Sit Down Kids - The Union Gap
    Goin' Back - The Byrds
It Could Be We're In Love - The Cryin' Shames
Groovin' Is Easy - The Electric Flag
Turn On A Friend (To A Good Life) - The Peanut Butter Company
Silence Is Golden - The Tremeloes
    Thumni - Ravi Shankar

Talk about eclectic! Something for everyone.

I also picked up about 30 more LPs - mostly things that I already own and don't need multiples of - that I will take to my favorite store tomorrow and hopefully flip for some store credit.

To top it off, I evidently got there just ahead of another vinyl hound. I noticed a guy looking with disdain at me as I was checking the condition of the albums I had picked out. This never happens to me - usually I'm the one who wishes I hadn't stopped for lunch when I see the good stuff being grabbed up before I can look through it. Guess it was my turn today.

Flipping through the 45s at Salvation Army today, I found Steely Dan's single of "Hey Nineteen." I have all of their albums, but I got this single for the B-side, a 7:22 non-album live take of "Boddhisattva." 10 cents.

Is that the version of Boddhisattva where the band is being introduced on stage and the announcer calls them "Stevie Dan"?

"Tell all your friends they missed it!"

Or I may be thinking of another version from an earlier 45. "Show Biz Kidz", possibly.
