    Billboard chart

#5 main. rock/#6 pop, "Heart of Rock 'n Roll"
#6 pop/#19 main. rock, "If This Is It"
#1 main. rock/#1 pop, "Power Of Love"
#3 main. rock, "Back In Time"
#1 pop/#2 main. rock, "Stuck With You"

#3 pop/#5 main. rock, "Perfect World"
#3 main. rock/#11 pop, "Couple Days Off"

Their harmonica/guitar heavy instrumentation was a bridge and paved the way for Blues Traveler's massive rock 'n roll fame in 1995. Both Huey Lewis and Blues Traveler won Grammys at the height of their fame. Huey Lewis won for the "Heart of Rock 'n Roll" video, and Blues Traveler for their performance on "Run Around".

Huey Lewis & The News employed a doo-wop style of background vocals and kept the genre in the mainstream for a decade, which paved the way for doo wop influenced rock 'n roll acts like Hanson (nominated for three Grammys in 1998).

I say none. I like him. He has the hit credentials but to me there's nothing new here. Paving the way for Blues Traveler is a minus.

I think if Hall and Oates and Bon Jovi could get in then I suppose anything is possible. I do like Huey and I think he and the band are deserving but there are still plenty of other artists that need to get in before they do though.

I think Huey is the example of successful artists who are not really Hall of Fame material. The music doesn't really resonate in any meaningful way.

Huey's vocal timbre was sure new. He has an instantly recognizable vocal sound that none can imitate. He sings the living heck out of "Heart and Soul". I'm surprised that the power of his voice didn't obliterate the tape machine when they recorded that one.

The rules are that only 5 artists get inducted each year. I can't see them making a top 5. Too many artists on backlog ahead of them and each year the backlog builds.

I don't see them on what a RnRHOF level should be, but that horse left the barn long ago. Once they start admitting any fluff act with big sales numbers, like Bon Jovi, what really is the criteria any more other than popularity?

What the hell, let 'em all in.

Musical Velveeta on the order of Lewis's outfit is more a slap in the face to rock'n'roll than a shining paragon of it. And as mentioned, influencing Hanson and Blues Traveler isn't exactly something I'd put at the top of my resume.

Sure, Kiss and Bon Jovi are in . . . So let's welcome Huey Lewis to the Rock & Roll Hall of Sustained Mediocrity.

If Ringo solo can get in, then anything's possible.

Since the Cars made it, I think Huey will make it at some point. Both were known for pop rock hits, memorable videos and really didn't have mainstream longevity (with their careers overlapping for a few years).

Would I put Huey in? Probably not, but I won't be surprised if they make it in eventually.

Remember what your parents told you? Two wrongs don't make a right! Just because Bon Jovi got in doesn't mean Huey should, too.

A fun bar band, who influenced nobody. Doo wop and blues-based rock were around long before them.

Is Huey Hall of Fame worthy? No, not really. He wasn’t particularly innovative, or influential, and I like some Huey Lewis and The News, even saw them live.

But f*** it, the Hall probably will put them in.

    You have to be joking.

Limal or Boy George would be more worthy

To ME the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be reserved for those who actually INFLUENCED or created a new style of music...Huey Lewis and the News did neither...I like them but I don't think they are in the least worthy...

Sorry but I have to say NO... i visited the Hall a couple years back and I was appaled at the groups/artist that were in there or worse yet not in there. I enjoy some Huey but my lord there’s a big list of people before him that should be thought of. After my visit I really thought it was kind of a joke. It’s the “Rock and Roll” HOF not the music HOF, Madonna HOF, Rap HOF, and on and on.... thanks for letting me vent! Whew..

  23. Nah. Short-lived, not influential, very MOR. Decent radio/pub fodder, not much more. Also, "paving the way for Blues Traveler" is about as bad as "laying the groundwork for Nickelback".

This "short lived" or "didn't have mainstream longevity" canard is strange. Huey ranged from big to massive huge from 1982 to 1994, which was much longer than The Cars.
