Hi, I am a huge fan of Humphrey Bogart, and all the classic Warner Bros. early crime stars.. James Cagney, and Edward G. Robinson, etc... Film Noir is my favorite movie genre. I have been collecting original and rare items of these three. If there are any like minded fans out there, and you would like to discuss anything.. share or possibly sell a collectible please let me know. This would be my ultimate Bogie collectible.. The original NM copy of the NYC Playbill copy for the stage production of "The Petrified Forest" (1935). This lead to Bogart's breakout W.B. film as Duke Mante, thanks to Leslie Howard. A very rare example..
Some of my favorite Bogart performances: In A Lonely Place Dead Reckoning The Caine Mutiny Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Big Sleep The African Queen Bogie sure knew how to pick great roles.
My favorite Bogart films The maltease falcon The big sleep Dark passage In a lonely place Key Largo Can't say I have anything collectable.
I could watch him in just about anything. It's a shame someone at Warners didn't do films of all the Chandler books with Bogart as Marlowe. They may not have all been up to the level of The Big Sleep, but it's a series I would like to have seen. This reminds me, I need to get around to reading Stefan Kanfer's bio...
WOW! Thanks everyone for your generous comments. Wanna hear a killer, I lost out on this superior item .. priceless. I was runner up, and should have bid more .. Yeah, that's right... Rocco wants more! Toots' shave, and not too close.
Love bogart. His performance raises even his lesser films to a different levels and makes them enjoyable - something I can say for only a few of his contemporaries - grant, fonda, Stewart, Hepburn and Davis. And he died so young - only a little older than tom Cruise is now, to put it in perspective. My favourite bogart movies? In no order, except for the first... 1. The big sleep 2. Key Largo 3. In a lonely place 4. Casablanca 5. The desperate hours 6. Deadline USA 7. High Sierra 8. The maltese falcon 9. Treasure of the Sierra madre 10. Dead reckoning
Great post,Bogey,Cagney,Eddy G. were the standards for which ALL GANGSTERS are based as far as I'm concerned..I've always believed that Jimmy Cagney was robbed of the Oscar for his classic[White Heat-TOP OF THE WORLD MA]all gangster roles by these three are classics as far as I'm concerned or as Eddy G. would've said-GONNA DO IT MY WAY YA SEE!!
Finally saw "It All Came True" last weekend for the first time. I'd long forgotten that that film even existed:
There are other Bogart items listed on my main thread: More .. Signed Photos, LP's, PS's, Promo's, Memorabilia, Empherea, Etc.
Glad to see 'In a Lonely Place' getting so much love. I would also add Deadline USA They Drive By Night All Through the Night Sahara To Have and Have Not (For me, by FAR the best Bogie/Bacall movie. Their scenes together are still white hot.) African Queen The Return of Dr. X (perhaps Bogie's single weirdest performance. Love that bunny!)
Coincidentally saw In a Lonely Place as the most recent Bogart film I saw. Favorites in this order: The Maltese Falcon Casablanca The Big Sleep To Have and Have Not Key Largo But I love them all.
I didn’t like “ in a lonely place” at all. Way too depressing. I had basically no sympathy for his character either. It’s also sad seeing Bogart so old.
How many color and/or widescreen films did Bogart appear in? I tend to think of him as being in B/W academy ratio movies, but I know that's not entirely true. Any recommendation on Bogie in widescreen? I have "The Harder They Fall" on my watchlist but I haven't seen it yet. As for color, I think I've only seen him in African Queen.
I have a poster from the 1950s rerelease of The Roaring Twenties starring Cagney and Bogart hanging in my tiny apartment. The movie is just okay but the poster is awesome.
I'm a HUGE Humphrey Bogart fan.. I still have a handful of movies on the DVR I haven't seen yet.. My favorite with him in it - The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
