Well, I'm happy to say that I'm enjoying my newly purchased Sony SCD-777ES. I had to make a lot of financial arrangements to swing it after I was conned out of a lot of money (previous thread). I very (very, very very) carefully contacted the seller (with excellent feedback) by phone and used Paypal. I received the player in excellent condition and it has a few years of warranty left (it was purchased from an authorized dealer 2 years ago). I made the decision that it would help my mental state to just get on with my original plan of a new SACD player and chalk up the bad experience to the past. I"m very, very happy with the 777ES and I'm also glad I can look forward rather than back. I will not let any negative event and especially negative people (crooks) interfere with my life and plans to the best of my ability. :)

P.S. I just got back from an incredible trip to New Orleans...... :) :)

This player is amazing. Truly, a night and day difference in regard to red book compared to my old SCD C555ES. The SACD playback is also incredible! I actually do not mind the slight wait time to load a CD. As some folks have said, it is almost like putting on a small digital record with a clamp for us TT lovers. :) Also, I am truly impressed with the build quality. This is a serious piece of hardware!

I agree. Its freaky to hear that kind of fidelity, and look up and not see the turntable spinning! SACD is truly amazing. I hope to get a player like yours, or an SCD-1 soon.

Congrats., Todd. I am very glad to hear that you have obtained and are enjoying the '777ES. You are absolutely right about how it compares to the 'C555ES. I have both players in my main system, and I actually use the 'C555ES a lot out of convenience. It's a great machine, but when I do serious listening on the '777ES, I am amazed at how much better it is, both with CDs and SACDs. Oh, and the build quality is outstanding. I've had the '777ES for four and a half years, and I couldn't be happier with it. :)

Yes, I have heard that smoking can fuzz up high quality components.... :D

    Congrats, Todd! :)

    Todd,
Remember not to store the little gold do-hickey (puck) in the machine when not in use. Put it in a little baggie or something..

Thanks, Dave. I just read through that thread, and it sickens me to hear what happened. :(

Todd, on the very bright side, you got your new player. I also have great respect for your ability to put things in perspective. Enjoy the player and enjoy life. :)

Thanks everyone!! Steve, I'll take your advice and put the gold do-hickey/puck in a zip lock bag when not in use. The do-hickey looks rather nice when puting it over a nice gold DCC. :)

Yes, I should put some serious thought to doing something about my smoking.....

Thanks Keith! I'm rather amazed at how I dealt with that situation. To be very honest (and this is what amazes me) but I've completely come to terms with what happened and I'm not bothered about it anymore. I've chalked it up to experience and learned from it. The future lies that way (pointing finger forward).... :)

    Todd,

Excellent!! I've been waiting for news regarding your new digital machine. Hate to say "I toldya so" that the '777ES/SCD1 would annilate your older C555ES ;)

It's amazing how much of a difference that hardware can make!

Speaking of gold pucks...... Like SH sez, I don't leave mine in the machine. I recently found a little glass "tray" that's meant for holding small candles ($1). I lined it with felt, and keep the puck in it while not in use. Its the perfect height and size to sit next to my SCD-1.

Todd, Glad you like the player, it is worth every penny you paid for it. I just leave the little gold disc on top of the player when not in use, it's very convenient. I am sick about your story about the SCD-1. :shake:

Wags, I think you have a great idea there about the crack. I am totally addicted to both fine audio and fine wine, neither of which comes cheap, so the crack may be the answer. :D

This is probably true based on what I have heard but the silver lining is that there are a number of good players less expensive than an SCD-777ES. The lower priced Marantz is very good, for example.

I can only hope there will be more rock SACDs...hopefully Pink Floyd will release these discs that Guthrie is working on. :)

Congrats on your new SACD player. It sounds like a beauty!!! I missed your previous post about being ripped off. I just went through the post and it is really disturbing how scumbags like that get away with ripping decent people off with basically little chance of getting caught. :realmad: Your attitude and ability to move on from that unfortunate situation is commendable. I know that I would have had a big problem letting something like that go even though there was nothing one could do about it. Enjoy the 777. :righton:
