After reading some of the posts in the "weeding out" thread, I thought it would be fun to devote a thread exclusively to music that you bought and is now embarrassing to have in your collection, yet you still haven't gotten rid of.

These are the items that you listened to maybe once, and know in your heart that you will never listen to again.

I'll start by cleaning out my closets:

    Debbie Gibson - Electric Youth
Chant - I can't even remember the name of the group of monks who did this
Patsy Cline - Duets (phony duets with Willie, Crystal Gayle, etc. - just awful)
    Whitney Houston - Whitney
    Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers
    Clueless soundtrack
    Back to Titanic (soundtrack)
    Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits

I very nearly bought the Elmo & Patsy album from a Goodwill shop, but couldn't bring myself to do it ;)

    Now that's a great thread!

I can think of few off the top of my head...these CD's were mostly found in cutout bins but that's not an excuse, is it:

Space Ghost Musical Barbecue (or something like that)
    Neil Hefti/Pardon My Doo-Wah
Cannibal Corpse (curiosity killed my lunch)
Dylan ($$$ import with Big Yellow Taxi, A Fool Such As I....yuck!)
Celebrities at Their Worst (all of em so far...I never learn ;-)
Crosby Stills & Nash/Live It Up (still living it down)
Cecil Taylor & Mary Lou Williams (a real car wreck)
Farm Dogs (can blue men sing the whites?)

Back sometime around 1986 or so, My Dad visited Moscow (this was when Russia was still the USSR). Just for fun he bought me an album from one of those state sponsored pop groups, The Harrys. They were sort of the Soviet version of New Kids on the Block, only a little older.

Real cheesy stuff and hard to listen to with the songs sung in Russian.

I think I gave a couple of songs about half a minutes worth of listening before I just put it in my stack (alphabetically, of course) where it's stayed to this day.

Not fair! This album is out of league in this group.

While there are no memorable songs in it, MIE is quite listenable.

I group this album with the later output of musicians such as Dave Mason (with Fleetwood Mac) and Rod Stewart. Impeccable craftmanship, with not a single tune that draws your attention but they are so listenable!

Nothing that will inspire you but, hey, you'll find plenty in many earlier albums.

I have several Ronco compilation Lps. Can't believe I did that.

For possibly $1, I could take the Jive Bunny CD as I could use that just for special occasions. BTW, there are lots of tracks on the Elmo & Patsy album that are great songs.

    :righton: Hell yeah. Me too!

I bought Stroke 9's CD for that "Little Black Back Pack" song. You might recall that Stroke 9 was yet another late 90's pseudo-punk-grunge suburban band with a catchy single.

I bought an Ani Difranco album last year. A 2CD set of studio material, I don't know what I was thinking. Did I really think that I would like this? I'm going to have to quit falling for some of the reviews that I read. Next time I weed out, it will be the first to go.

Peter Gabriel - Self Titled....I bought it for Solsbury Hill, but the rest of the album is not very good (to say it politely).

Steelheart- Remember that tune I'll Never Let You Go? I bet that dude popped a testicle singing that last chorus. I get lower abdominal pains just listening to it.

Whoa dad - don't you dis my man Esquerita! Too wild for mass consumption, too crazy for the times, Es-Q was a crucial figure in Little Richard's evolution. Remember - the higher the hair, the closer to God!

Are you kidding? That's a great album. You may want to give it another listen. Do you like any of his other stuff?

Anything I had to buy for my daughter (since I love her so much):

    Britney Spears
    N'Sync
    Backstreet Boys
    A Teens
    Play
    O-Town
    Aaron Carter

I would never listen to this stuff - but she does. Hopefully in a few years when she gets into real music :D , we can weed the above stuff out for some serious cash ;)

(Please no offense intended to anyone on this forum that digs the music I listed).

I bought the Tiffany album(with her..."cover"...of I Think We're Alone Now)because my then GF liked that song. Of course, it got weeded out later!

I can't believe I bought the Spice Girls first CD, although one of the songs are good. I also bought a Tiffany CD-used.

I'm hanging on to my three Debbie Gibson CDs, though!

I can't believe how many people are embarrassed by those TV cartoon CDs! They are great! I watched cartoons as a kid, and those bring back fond memories!

I haven't bought anything downright embarrassing in a while, but I do buy things that I end up not liking and weed it out. I recently bought cd's by the Flower Kings and Spock's Beard that I ended up hating. Both went to the Salvation Army quickly.

The last time I bought a bunch of stuff I'd be embarrased to admit having owned was probably in high school, when I owned among other embarrassments:

    Cheap Trick: Heaven Tonight
    Kansas: Leftoverture
    Boston: s/t
    Styx: Equinox, Grand Illusion
    Van Halen: II
    Foreigner: Double Vision

Fortunately it's been almost 20 years since these beauties found their way to the used record store.
