I currently am limited to the Pistols and Black Flag.

Buzzcocks, Ramones etc. I know what I'm going to get; and I know that I find that style of songwriting redundant and just not very interesting (yes, I know that was the point in many ways).

So, what is there that boasts more than just three chords and general shoutyness?

With that attitude you don't deserve punk rock.

The Misfits, The Damned and Dead Kennedys are favorite punk bands of mine, and they may fit your requirements.

Did you even read his post? He doesn't even mention the Clash.

The Clash fits your requirements better than anyone else, they were the most developed punk band.
Reggae, ska, etc mixed with punk. Plus, politically charged lyrics.
After this, Siouxsie & the Banshees is also a good option (songs like Arabian Knights, Israel and Hong Kong Garden would have caused controversy if they were released today).

Sounds like you don't know what you're going to get with the Buzzcocks. Also, all of those bands use more than three chords - they're not blues rock after all.

A few favorites off the top of my head:

    Nomeansno
    Snuff
    Naked Raygun
    Circle Jerks
    The Jam's first album
    Crimpshrine
    Rites of Spring
Screeching Weasel (Ramones-y, I guess, but better [and funnier] lyrics and a bit more variety)
    NoFX
    7 Seconds

Try some hardcore for a change.

There's a fourth chord in there somewhere. And even more general shoutyness!

Get the first two albums by the band X. No redundant songwriting there ! They sounded like nothing else before or since.

X-Ray Spex, Germ Free Adolescence. Yes they only ever produced one album, but it's pure punk perfection from beginning to end.

    3 other bands I'd recommend;
    Generation X
    The Adverts
    The Ruts

  21. Well, Black Flag and the Pistols are on the heavier end of the spectrum and they can be three chords and shouty, but you don't care for the Ramones and Buzzcocks, anything you are looking for specifically: production wise, male/female vocals, songwriting accessibility, UK/US/Aus/NZ, etc.,

If you like Black Flag, I'd suggest scoping out Flipper. For something (relatively) more modern, I don't think it gets much better than Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come.
