[post deleted, as I don't want to get yelled at]

Essentially, the knockdown Dandelion on the old ABKCO CD seems to match (with slightly different compression/EQ) teh knockdown Dandelion on the CURRENT ABKCO CD. It sounds like they just grabbed that tape.

Now THAT'S something I'd like to see again. I got in trouble for using one at Home Depot. Turned out it wasn't a working model.

I actually have three indoor toilets! But, wow, if you forget to empty them outside, the wife gets real mad.... stick to the outdoor types! It's safer!

Er, back to the topic at hand...

...I've listened to the stuff as well, and tend to agree with David. The London CD version is clearly different from both the original ABKCO and SACD, but the old and new ABKCO versions are strikingly similar. Same narrowed in soundstage *very* close sync-wise (probably not spot-on since I believe Bob Ludwig did his mastering in analog).

BTW, my guess is David just doesn't want to get in trouble for posting a (somewhat large) MP3 file on his university's web server.

    Luke,

You are probably right about the large file issue.

I guess I am going to have to break down and purchase some of those Stones re-masters. I am behind the curve.

    Bob,

If you don't know where to go, and especially ifd you are interested in the hits, Get Hot Rocks for stereo and the Singles Collection for mono. I like them both.

ACtually, that's pretty much what I was thinking, Luke. I forgot how many people probably LURK here...if it were just the posters, I'd be fine sharing the link, but...

FWIW, the general summary is that I think they used the same tape (albeit processed a bit) on the old CDs and the new CDs. Then again, it ALSO sounds like they used the old "I Am Waiting" tape on Aftermath, and taht could just be a new narrowed version. Who knows? Certainly not us.

Nasty surprise Pt. 2: I just did what I should have done ages ago, and checked my copy of the UK Aftermath. Surprise: none of the stereo (including Mother's Little Helper) is quite as wide as on the London CD.

Now, I attribute this more to the medium than I do to any "intention" on anybody's part...the right channel of Helper, for example, has essentially no bass on the London CD, which might've caused problems on LP. That said, I do have to re-evalulate my position here somewhat, as ABKCO might've had a point re. narrowing down some of the stereo mixes on their new Aftermath.

That said, they clearly overdid it in certain cases, and its use on CD is very artificial.
