Three Beatles albums I always recommend are Pepper/White album/& Revolver. They all have better bass, and vocal imaging.

Pretty much anything released before 1968 needs to be heard in mono, but these are absolutely essential:

    Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's

    Byrds - Younger Than Yesterday

Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk

Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen

    Cream - Fresh Cream

Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding

Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced (UK)

    Jefferson Airplane - Takes Off
    - Surrealistic Pillow
    - After Bathing at Baxter's

    Love - Love
    - Forever Changes

Lovin' Spoonful - Do You Believe In Magic
    - Daydream
    - Hums of The Lovin' Spoonful

    Mothers - Freak Out
    - Absolutely Free

Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn

    Seeds - The Seeds
    Seeds - Web of Sound

Thirteenth Floor Elevators - Psychedelic Sounds of...

Velvet Underground - White Light /White Heat Side 1

If he were to flip for the Sgt. Pepper thing, wouldn't it stand to reason he's got a Mono box laying around as well? What say you, veloso2?

I don't focus on the "differences" in the mix so much... but I'm often impressed with the difference in overall impact listening in MONO. Some of my favorites:

Traffic - Mr. Fantasy / Heaven Is In Your Mind
Buffalo Springfield - s/t first album
The Rolling Stones - get the Decca / London MONO box set... Satanic Majesties is great, but so is Aftermath and all the early albums.
Bob Dylan - MONO box. Some of these sound better than stereo because the early CD versions were mastered indifferently, and the remastered CD's were EQ'd poorly. But I generally prefer the MONO mixes... they're my Go To versions now.
Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk
The Lovin' Spoonful - first three albums

I'm saying, stands to reason he's probably already got a spiffy white box of 2009's to set right next to his Pepper-pack...complete with the three suggestions you put out there.

The first few Beatles and Dylan albums, because the stereo mix is extreme and bad.
Dylan's Blonde on Blonde has some different mixes to the stereo.

You haven't heard this album until you've heard it in glorious mono. Really kicks, much better bass too:righton:

I accidentally ordered the stereo Analogue Productions version and I couldn't get more than half way through "Farmer's Daughter" before I realized I HAD to have the mono A.P. version. It's outstanding!

Not to throw this thread off-topic, but is Love's 'Forever Changes' a dedicated mono mix? I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall somebody saying it wasn't. Needless to say, I agree with you, I think it sounds great!

The Who - The Who Sell Out is perhaps the classic album with the most radically different stereo /mono mixes.

This thread touches on the many differences between the two mixes:
The Who Sell Out mono or stereo?

According to this thread, opinions seem to be divided between those that think it is a dedicated mono mix, and those that think it's a fold: Love - Forever Changes Gold Label, Mono or Stereo?

    I agree with most of your list, except for;
    Songs of Leonard Cohen

While I think it's definitely worth hearing the mono mix (if you can find it), the stereo mix is also pretty good and has much better fidelity.

Not an album pick but all the Motown singles of the 60's sound way better in mono.

If it is a fold, and as you recall that point has been debated here, it's a fold that I prefer to the stereo.
