It was a good premise for a movie, and I thought the first 15 minutes or so was pretty funny, but the rest not so much. I don't think it's underrated, it's just not very good.

Oh shoot! Now you got me craving one of their frosty drinks. The one with the ice and chocolate chips in it. But, I get mine made with coconut milk.

    (There was a joke in Juan's post, but I don't get it.:D )

Oh maybe you don't remember but a Starbucks had different products in the future. Think gentlemen's latte.

I think the premise is what endures in a lot of people's minds. Agreed, it doesn't have much imagination once you get past the setup, but it seems so familiar.

Perhaps some people here were looking for some high art or Academy Award-level filmmaking? No. This is Mike Judge, the guy who gave us MTV's Beavis And Butthead! But, through all the stupidity, there's some real messages and warnings about how we, as a people, just may wind up if we don't correct how we conduct our society. This is what could happen when people don't pay attention and lose the ability to think rationally and logically, and surrender our ability to think over to the big corporations, big media, and modern-day pied pipers and emperors. Sure the characters and situations in the movie seem extreme, but are they?

If you're looking for H.G. Wells meets Orson Welles you aren't going to find it in Idiocracy, but for what it is, I liked it. It was a fresh concept with some memorable gags and a couple of solid performances. I've bought DVDs of better movies that I haven't watched as often.

I see it playing out to some degree now. The movie in many ways can be seen as a prophetic work of art. And biting satire. Because it's a comedy maybe many dismiss its warrnings too easily. The scary thing is I don't see it as all that extreme anymore.
