If you are of a fan of Margo Timmins do yourself a favor and visit their updated website here http://latentrecordings.com/cowboyjunkies/exclusive/

There are 10 songs by Margo as a solo artist without the band that are superb. Here is a bit of the copy from the site:

Margo's Corner - Ty Tyrfu Sessions, Volume One

At times I get the urge to take the short journey West down the 401 to Guelph, Ontario, home to Jeff Bird and his large network of musical friends. There in Jeff's home studio, Ty Tyrfu, we've recorded some of my favourite songs by some of my favourite writers (listed below). It's an easy, stress free way to pass a lazy afternoon. Welcome to my corner. Come back every now and then to see if I've added something new.

    1. George Harrison
    2. Cat Stevens
    3. Bruce!!!! Awesome.....
    4. Leonard Cohen
    5. Dylan
    6. Bruce Cockburn
    7. The Beatles
    8. Dylan
    9. Richard Thompson
    10. Lucinda

    Kevin Breit on guitar
    Randall Coryell on drums
    Jeff Bird on bass
    Witek Grabowiecki on piano
    Nick Craine on backing vocals

At the link above you can stream the songs to check them out. All 10 are available for 8.00. I downloaded them into iTunes and the sound quality is quite good.

The music is awesome. I've never heard Margo sing without the band. She is accompianed by Jeff Bird and several other musicians. I can only hope they issue this on CD and vinyl.

    Download...and enjoy! :)

I'll add my voice to the hope Margo's material gets a CD release. I'd also love to see the Cookie Crumbs shows get CD treatment as well.

thanks for the heads up -- other than Emmylou, Margo is my all time fave female singer. somehow i don't get the impression we'll see lossless or a physical release for this material.

And check out the Cookie Crumbs Vol. 3 - Waltz Across America Tour from 2000 in Elgin, IL. A great show and a 16+ minute version of Blue Guitar. The show also includes Over The Rhine in the band too.

The Latent Recordings website was shut down for quite awhile recently. I was hoping that when it came back, they'd offer lossless downloads, but no such luck.

What's the bitrate on the MP3s? It it 128, or something higher?

And speaking of Emmylou Harris...one of the best concerts I've ever seen was Emmylou Harris at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, right after Wrecking Ball came out. I don't know if they did the entire tour, but Daniel Lanois and his band played with Emmylou that night, and it was magical. When the show was over, I turned around to put on my coat and realized that Margo Timmins had been sitting right behind me. If I'd run into Kate Bush on my way out, it would have been perfect...but two out of three ain't bad. :)

  8. I was at that show and it was incredible.

Don't remember if I saw Margo there though...

please do let us know if this comes out on CD or LP, I'd buy it in a heartbeat :righton:, but no down loads for me... :shake: :help:

    cheers,

I never saw the Cowboy Junkies live, but will have to catch them next time they're in town.

I remember they were here right after Trinity Session came out. It so happened that I drove by the venue at which they were playing that night but the people I was with weren't too keen to stop and see them. I hadn't even heard any of their music yet so I didn't really think much about it. Then a week later I heard the album and was absolutely blown away.

Hard to believe that was 20 years ago.

do go see them when you have a chance. out of all of the shows that i've gone to, they are one of the best, most unique, bands i've seen. collectively, they create a musical space that's very sensuous, precious, mysterious, and heightened -- very hard to describe, but on a great night, you can really feel it.

I don't know the bit rate but I was surprised at the openness and overall uncompressed quality. You can hear Margo breathing. That ain't a bad thing.

    ok, I will. LOL. :righton:

  14. I just downloaded it. The bit rate is 320 kbps.

(Be aware that tho it says USD 7.99 when you click on it, it then says $8.99 when you actually place the order. )

I'm not a huge CJ fan but I like their covers. I'd shell out for some of these on CD or even lossless download. Oh well...

  17. I would buy this in a second if it was available on cd. Labels will continue to see no money from me on material only made available in lossy form.

I'd much prefer lossless or CD, but I went ahead and dropped the $8.99 for the 320 lossy files. I am impressed with the overall quality. Open, airy, and no sense of compression--either forms...(music, or MP3). I'll be in line for the CD or lossless files.

Tried to rip some 320 mp3's for temporary use last week, and they froze my iPod. Googled to find 320's can apparently cause some trouble like that in some cases. Kinda wish they'd just done 256, especially with no simple way to change the bitrate as far as I know.

Neat project, though; thanks for sharing the news -

If you are a Junkies fan I suggest checking out Lee Harvey Osmond on Latent. Margo and Micheal Timmins are in the sessions along with members of Skydiggers and Tom Wilson of Junkhouse.

I just thought I'd bump this ancient thread to point out that all the downloads on the Cowboy Junkies site are now available in lossless format (FLAC and Apple Lossless) as well as 320 KBPS MP3s.
