If you could only listen to one hard rock band for the next month, who would it be?*

  1. This thread is just another excuse for me to mention SWEET again! :uhhuh:

OK, it depends on what my friend Paul would have exposed me to between 1998 and 2004 when I knew him, so it could be Triumph, those guys are great, or Gamma Ray, who are, in my opinion, the best hard rock / heavy metal band to have come out. He had about 250 CD's of rock / metal and he played them constantly. I lived in the next apartment, so I heard many of them. Some of them were great, some of them were just noise, IMO, like Cannibal Corpse. If I never hear them again, I won't care! Oh and of course you can't beat Iron Maiden. Van Halen are, well, Van Halen. And everyone here already knows about Led Zepellin and Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, so no need to mention the classics.

  2. And, of course, THE ANGELS (Australian band from 1975 to about 2004)

But don't click on this if you don't like bad language

    .....no way!

I'm with all those who said UFO, Zep, Purple.....

Although I could certainly play Uriah Heep for a month, I'd question is this the right category? I'd have them placed more in the prog-rock section than hard rock.

But I'd say that UFO, Zep and Purple aren't hard rock either, so what do I know? All three of these very fine acts have many melody-led songs.

(I'm also going to throw Hawkwind into the mix. Those lads had their rock-out moments too. They've certainly got a large enough back catalogue for someone to play about 3 of their cds per day to last an entire month without doubling up.)

  8. Wow, these are confusing times., classic 70 s hard rock bands are no longer considered hard rock, let alone metal, revisionism is afoot.

I've started a binge on Opeth because I just recieved their new album yesterday. Listening to disc 3 of the vinyl Royal Albert Hall through my headphone amp. Gotta love Saturday mornings! I declare October as Opeth Month!

Make it a year!!! :) I can't really listen to much else at the moment. Their diversity is amazing! Their new album is stunning. You can hear a lot of Zep & Sabbath on this one. Very 70's.

That's a fairly idiosyncratic categorization, IMHO. I'm inclined not to disagree because I'd love to live in a world in which "Freewill" and "Jacob's Ladder" are pop songs.

Nazareth. Just ripped all their CDs to my hard drive and I had forgotten how much diversity is in their back catalog.

Or if you don't like songs that rip off Status Quo! (Take a look at the comments as well.)

This also answers the question I guess, or are Quo not considered hard rock?
