I would honestly recommend Jamiroquai to just about any music fan, but I think Dan fans especially would appreciate Jay Kay's sense of production and arrangement, even if Jamiroquai doesn't sound incredibly like Steely Dan.

Vulfpeck! Here is a link to them covering Kid Charlamegne with BERNARD PURDIE!!! -

Their original stuff is very much in the realm of Steely Dan -- a mixture of funk, rock, jazz, pop, blues, R&B, soul, allllll that stuff.

Love their first 2. What's the word on new music from them? Their FB page has been inactive for quite some time.

Vulfpeck does have a fantasatic soul singer that tours and records with them, Antwaun Stanley, who has an amazing range.
here is Vulfpeck covering Peg with Antwaun singing, really fantastic (skip to 1:04:00) -- --bonus pocket piano solo
Here's one of my favorite cuts from their last album with him VULFPECK /// Aunt Leslie

So tough. My favorite band and no, there's nothing else out there that consistently scratches the itch.

Boz Scaggs does it . . sometimes. The Doobies "Taking It To the Streets" and "Fault Line" albums get close . . . sometimes. Mayer Hawthorne tries to get close (and sometimes hits) on the new album.

But Don and Walter are sui generis.

Also if you dig their sound, Vulfpeck & Co. have created their own compression called Vulf Compressor which contributes a lot to their final produced sound...and a slew of other plugins that can be found here -- Goodhertz, Inc.

heres a vid with Theo Katzman (Vulfpeck's guitarist/drummer) showing off one of their plugins

I would recommend Warren Zevon and Tom Waits, not so much for the sound. Both share a dark, cynical, satirical bent to their lyrics a'la the Dan.

Definitely nothing like SD, but this particular solo album, "Today" is very jazzy pop, with a strong Latin flavor.

Couldn't locate any samples of the studio album on the web, except perhaps on iTunes. YouTube only has some live versions of the t/t, but they don't compare to the studio work. The studio album is very rich and textured. It features Raul on vocals and guitar. It includes a lot of variety on accompaniment — various horns and flute, guitar, percussion, strong acoustic and electric bass, drums, piano and background vocals.
