Buy it, you won't regret it. It's sound once appreciated will never be forgotten. And it's heirloom build and reliability will make it yours for life and your grandkids will still be able to use it. Don't look back.

It's a beauty for sure. Man, that's advice with confidence.

I'm going to look for a dealer maybe I can get a little off list not much but maybe at least the tax%.

Just looking at this baby makes me want it. It sure has every feature. I have great speakers and upstream components for it. I really need to do this for myself. It's so hard to decide on such an expensive purchase but if you can't wait to be home to listen it has to be worth it!

No such think as exit level in the audio world, unless your days are numbered. Your days aren't numbered are they dat56? :)

It probably depends on the dealer. I've seen some claims that McIntosh components are never discounted and other sources say otherwise.

I knew of a dealer demo MC275 (the new version) that is discounted. It was still too expensive for me, though. Besides I didn't really need it. :)

Buying used is the way to go on Mac gear.. If you are patient and search you will find deals, I got my MC300 Power Amp at a local dealer for $2,000. Its built like a tank and will last a lifetime.. I'm amazed at the sound time and time again, just makes music so much fun to listen too..

I bought used mint McIntosh from Tom Manley at www.mcintoshaudio.com in Knoxville. He's associated with Terry Dewick and all equipment is brought up to new specifications and comes with a warranty. My McIntosh is very simple, a C29 preamp and MC2105 amp, but I love it.

Agreed with TheRealMcCoy: Pre owned McIntosh in mint condition is the way to go.

As an example, a friend recently purchased a perfect MA 7000 from Audio Classics for $5,000 which quite a substantial discount and should provide 99% the service as the same purchased new. Chances are, most McIntosh equipment will outlive most of us anyway.

The privilege of being the first to open the box is far too steep in my book.

*I wholeheartedly agree with McLover's recommendation of the MAC 4100. It is the single best value in entry level McIntosh, in my opinion. MA 6200 is another good value.

What about the MAC6700? It is the newest and looks like the only receiver?
    Thanks...

It is excellent and recommended. Worth your audition and effort to own. Though my favorite receiver McIntosh built was the good old MAC 4100. The best tuner, control facilities, and built like the oldies.

Already have great speakers but yes it's probably true.

I am looking to replace an aging receiver.

I find it hard to believe that you couldn't work out a discount on even Mac gear. A sale is a sale, so they don't make their full amount for a piece of gear you could order and have shipped I would start calling or emailing different Mac dealers till I found one that would play game. I get 20% discounts all the time on audio gear I purchase. All it takes is asking.

MAC 6700 will cost 4 - 5 times the money of a MAC 4100. Doubtless, it has a higher level of refinement after 4 decades of technological advancement, if nothing else, however the specifications of the MAC 4100 are certainly nothing to sniff at.

To my eyes, MAC 4100 has the MAC 6700 beaten in spades in the looks department - but that is subjective. Additionally, the 4100 has much better tone control flexibility, including 5 band EQ as well as McIntosh's famous variable loudness which has been omitted from recent equipment, much to the chagrin of many.

Additionally, the 4100 can drive down to 2 ohms(!) without complaint and is one of a very few number of receivers with such capability.

A salesman once stated the MAC 4100 was vital in keeping the Company going throughout the dark days of the late '70s and early '80s with many installations centered around the model. It is still as true today, as it had been way back when - one of the single best values in McIntosh.

To quote Terry DeWick on the MAC 4100, "An MA 6200 + MR 75 (tuner). It's perfect."

Finding one may be quite the challenge. I see the value here in the comparison.

If McIntosh (insert name of A/V brand here, I'm not singling out McIntosh) finds out you're discounting too much (or at all), you might be violating your distribution agreement with them, and they'll pull you out of their dealer program. Certain dealers to get a reputation of giving regular/heavy discounts off MSRP. Manufacturers typically don't appreciate this, as it lowers margins across the dealer channel, lowers resale, value and often brand perception. Dealers that play "by the rules" often get access to more training, support, hottest products, etc. from the manufacturer. That's a good thing!

They are actually quite abundant and readily available.

The trick is finding the right one. In that vein, I strongly recommend buying from a trusted reputable McIntosh specialist such as Tom Manley or Audio Classics, in graded condition and be assured it's up to snuff and in the cosmetic condition you expect.

Buying one on eBay is a crapshoot and the discount is usually not sufficient to cover a thorough refurbishment if needed which can run around to $500 including tuner alignment and whatever else, not to mention the hassle and wait time after which you will be no better off than spending ~ $1,200 up front for a known entity from a reputable dealer.

Once gone through, you will be good to go for another 20 years.

Terry is one of the foremost & respected McIntosh specialists. I have used his services a number of times which is first rate and extremely reasonable. His orders come from around the globe.

The only complaint is the wait time which is usually on the order of months.
