I can't find any mention of the plum version on SH. I know that it's not the country of origin but it seems surprising no one has mentioned it. Can anyone attest to its qualities. I have a US 2nd.

IDK but I have a Rhino reissue that came out last year. Mastered by Chris Bellman from the original master tapes. It sounds fantastic.

Yes, I know about that and will get it eventually but I’m looking for discussion of early versions such as the plum vs the ATCOs.

It’s hard to believe no one on SH.tv doesn’t have a copy and a comment to make!:(

I had the plum a few years ago - I say "had", because I got rid of it. It sounded terrible. It sounded muffled and lacked dynamics. The only thing that it had going for it was that the surfaces were quiet.

I came to the conclusion that an original US Atco pressing simply couldn't sound any worse than the UK plum, so now I am on the lookout for a clean US original.

Didn't like the Bellman at all. Full frontal loud sounding.
Prefer the first US ATCO tricolor.

    Thanks. That’s quite a thumbs-down!

Well, just to give a different opinion, I had a nice UK plum Atlantic copy and thought it was great - solid, dynamic and as detailed as this somewhat muddy recording gets. IMO of course...

I'd like another one. - Though the CB Rhino reissue sounds interesting. Does anyone have any details for this? Available in the UK?

There's a nice George Piros pressing out there to keep your eyes peeled for on the later Yellow label. 75 Rock Plz.

There seem to be quite a few variations with one-side Proses, but I found this:

There ya go. Doube-sided Piros is out there. I've got one but not with those particular inner sleeves.

And my 2nd press ATCO doesn’t sound too great. Very thin.
