They had entered the world of Fender with those guitars in February 1965 for the Ticket to Ride session. Photos published in Beatles Monthly in April 1965 (and more from the same session in the 1980s and 1990s in colour) show John playing his. George must have been misremembering.

Nah - just read in the excellent ´Looking Through You: The Beatles Book Monthly Photo Archive´ that they are laying vocals there for You're Going to Lose That Girl.

    Anyway...

What goes over most people's heads is that In My Life is about John's new found love and respect for the US Capitol LP package of the album "Something New". He must have come across the album sometime in 65 and wrote this about what a massive impact it had on him. This is why he says "These memories lose their meaning when I think of love as Something New" :)

One of my favorite Beatles songs. Funny, I was just listening to the Johnny Cash version on his American IV The Man Comes Around last night.

As a lover of good lyrics, JB ranks high on my list of favorite musicians. Think I'll look for a good one to use as a "signature."
Regarding "In My Life," it is one of those songs whose lyrics have touched me in different ways throughout my life. I remember listening to it as a young teenager, thinking about my current crush and surroundings. It always evokes a strong sense of nostalgia in me. Of course, music always does this...at times, the nostalgia and melancholy can almost feel overwhelming.

Nikh33 is right, the photo was taken during Yes It Is session in February.
Looking Through You book has it wrong.

My favorite Beatles song and maybe favorite song from anyone. It's my 'desperado'. Had it played at our wedding while we cut the cake, and had it engraved inside our rings.

Love your desperado/seinfeld reference...does everything have to cease while your song is playing?

I'm sorry but I have never cared for this version. This type of rendition by Collins could make any slow song sound like that. It doesn't have to be In My Life. Furthermore, the lyrics lose something when sung by a female IMHO.

These three songs by John, Paul, and George are pretty unbeatable.

And they work well as covers for other singers and musicians because the songs are so musical with great lyrics to match.

35 years ago today I heard we lost Lennon in the most awful way.
When I got to work that morning they soon played "In My Life" on the radio station we had playing at our desks and my co-worker Claudette and I cried our eyes out.
That memory will remain with me for my life.

In My Life has been a real part of me for 50 years. IMO, it is in the top-10 greatest songs ever created, and on most days it is #1.....

Almost, but not quite as good as Keith Moon's version. But seriously, this song is always right up near the top when do those holiday top Classic Rock Songs of All Time. Here's Q104.3 2015 edition.
6 Beatles - In My Life
    5 Eagles - Hotel California
    4 Derek & The Dominos - Layla
3 Beatles - Let It Be
    2 Beatles - Hey Jude

It hit me hard, also. I remember it being the holiday season, but my heart wasn't in it at all. I just couldn't get it out of my mind. I was 27 y/o and it felt like part of my youth died. I remember being at a family Christmas gathering and saying to an older brother that I was feeling down about JL getting murdered and he was surprised I was letting it bother me that much.

It was equally upsetting that you were constantly hearing "Happy Xmas" on the radio (not to mention "Starting Over") that entire month it seemed.

I generally like judy's music, love her voice, was not crazy about this rendition, either.
